LG G3 First Thoughts Plus Specifications

LG have unveiled their 2014 flagship to rival other OEM flagships like Samsung’s Galaxy S5, HTC One and Sony’s Xperia Z2.

First of all let me start by telling you how much I love the design. The G3 is the only phone, I must say, that is so sweet to look at. Design-wise, LG beats all other manufacturers. I know Xperia Z2 is awesome but the LG G3 razor thin bezels are a killer. They make a 5,5 inch display seem like a normal phone and not a phablet. By the way the Galaxy S5 is 5.1 inches while the LG G3 is 5.5 inches but you wouldn’t notice this if you don’t take a closer look.

With a 5.5 inch display you might think LG will disappoint in terms of resolution? Yes? You’re wrong. The LG G3 is the first smartphone from the well known makers that hits the QHD screen resolution mark! Yes. Samsung, HTC and Sony all have good displays but none matches the LG G3’s QHD resolution, theoretically. This gives the phone a ridiculously high pixel density count of 538 ppi, making it far sharper than other phones. Though some people argue QHD (2K) display on a phone is quite over the top, LG says this is what it takes to achieve print like quality on your screen.

In matters weight, the LG G3 weighs 149g making it lighter than HTC One M8 and the Xperia Z2. Only the S5 is lighter than LG G3. Probably because Samsung majors on ‘plastic’ materials.

You will be free to choose either 2GB RAM or 3GB RAM and plus either 16GB or 32GB internal storage. The phone also offers upto 128GB Micro-SD support! It comes running Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat with a Quad-Core Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ clocked at 2.46 GHz. In short this pretty phone is a beast!

What shocked me however is the Camera. LG G2’s camera hasn’t been performing well when compared to other phone cameras. I personally expected an increase from 13MP to maybe 16MP or 20MP but LG have insisted on 13MP. The camera however supports Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and something I don’t quite get yet: Laser Autofocus. Both Sony and Samsung have larger camera sensors but neither implemented OIS so I guess that is a plus on the G3. HTC One M8 also doesn’t have OIS. The front camera also is quite something. The selfie fanatics will love the quality of light and 77 degree lens for ‘perfect’ selfies.

I love the LG G3 especially design-wise. Same way I loved the G2 design last year.

What do you think of the G3?
