The Safaricom Neon Prime Tab 7 is an Exciting 10.1 inch Tablet

Safaricom have a funny way of selling devices. People try googling and can’t find the device online. And as such, one fails to able to rate the device in terms of value for money. This has been the case with the Neon line of smartphones and tablets.

Anyway, I’ve wanted to write about the Neon 7 Prime since seeing a flyer of it online. But I couldn’t find any specifications on the flyer. I knew it had to be a ‘Vodafone tablet’ rebranded for the Kenyan market. But I wanted to first be sure before writing this.

I visited Safaricom shop, Kisumu. They didn’t allow me much to interact with the device as it is docked on a wall. But I saw what I needed to and took some bad photos. And actually liked the device.

It is obviously fool-hardy to recommend a device without using it. And I would love to do a review of this tablet first before giving you my final thoughts on it. But, this is the first Neon device from Safaricom I am excited about.

The good things:

  • The display looked good.
  • Slim design – metal or plastic? Can’t tell, it is docked on a wall LOL.
  • 5830mAh battery is good on paper
  • Android 6 Marshmallow

The not so good:

  • The Price could go a little lower. Like it should cost at most 20k
  • Not sure if it is metal or plastic (docked on a wall remember)

The questions:

Hey Safaricom, I have some questions about the device:

  • Does it receive OTA updates?
  • How well can it perform? Games? Browsing experience? Heavy applications?
  • How good is the battery in real life.

What are your thoughts?
