Huawei launches Y7p Budget Phone with punch-hole selfie, 48MP camera, 4000mAh battery

Huawei is still making phones, or rather updating them as new devices. We saw the P30 Lite NEW Edition, then saw the Y9s as an update to the Y9 Prime. We’ve seen the launch of the Nova 7i which is an update to the Nova 6SE. And now the company is announcing the Y7p.

The new Huawei Y7p is obviously an update to last year’s Y7 Prime, but is also very similar to the Y9, Y9 Prime, and Y9s in terms of the processor, and storage options. It may cost KES. 16,000 should it come to Kenya.

Huawei Y7p is powered by the Kirin 710F SoC paired with 4GB RAM. It runs Android Pie-based EMUI 9.1 out of the box and comes with 64GB of storage onboard. There's also a microSD card slot, allowing storage expansion by up to 512GB. The Y7p is built around a 6.39" HD+ LCD that has a punch hole in the top-left corner for the 8MP selfie camera. Around the back, you get a fingerprint reader and a triple camera setup, which is a combination of 48MP main, 8MP ultrawide and 2MP depth sensor units.

Huawei has found a way to still launch devices with Google Support despite the American ban. This is because they’re basically reselling already launched devices with new names, and in some cases small hardware tweaks.

I wonder what inspires their naming schemes though. Why Y9s, and then Y7p? Anyway, I hope they bring the device to Kenya where it will surely do well if they price it well.

The phone is powered by the Kirin 710F SoC paired with 4GB RAM. This is the same processor on very many of their Y9 series. It runs Android Pie-based EMUI 9.1 out of the box and comes with 64GB of storage onboard. Of course, Huawei will do the thing when this device launches and send out Android 10 update. They’ve been really good at that lately. There’s also a microSD card slot, allowing storage expansion by up to 512GB.

Huawei Y7p an update to Huawei Y7 Prime from 2019

The Y7p has a 6.39″ HD+ LCD that has a punch hole in the top-left corner for the 8MP selfie camera. At the back, you get a fingerprint reader and a triple camera setup, which is a combination of 48MP main, 8MP ultrawide and 2MP depth sensor units.

We don’t have any information from Huawei as to whether the device will make its way to Kenya, but I want to bet they will bring it because we’re getting into the usual launch cycle for smartphones, and this is their only way to bring in devices supporting Google apps.
