Best Phones Under 10K in Kenya (November 2014)

I have an updated March 2015 list here

I am used to doing best under 20K. There I can throw in a lot of devices. Anyway here are the very best phones (smartphones), in terms of specifications, you can get under 10,000 Kenya Shillings. These are not just phones under 10k. These are phones under 10K that have awesome specifications. These are phones I personally feel certain brands would price them highly.

1. Tecno H6

I know I mess up people’s expectations every time I start a list with a Tecno device. What would you rather I do? Tell you of the Samsung Pocket or the S3 Lite? This phone here is 4.5 inches running Android 4.4.2 KitKat with a Quad Core 1.3Ghz Processor and 8GB internal memory. It has a rear 8MP camera and 2MP front camera. So you can imagine that for the price. There’s an online retailer selling it at Ksh. 9400. The highest it can go for is Ksh. 13,000. Read more on the H6 here.

2. Tecno M3 and Tecno M3S

I had the Tecno M3 back in 2013. This in fact is the best phone you can get under 10K guaranteed. Here you are not looking for deals. The phone back then started at Ksh. 8500. This means right now it is around 6K. The M3s is obviously an improvement and might cost a little more.

The M3 is a 3.5 inch phone with 4GB internal memory and an 8GB free included memory card. It has a 1GHz Dual Core Processor and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. It has a brilliant 5MP camera on the back and 0.3MP on the front. I wrote about it endlessly because it was so much to handle at the price.

3. Tecno B5s

Be patient with me and these Tecnos. This phone will blow your mind since it is only Ksh 8000. It is a 4 inch IPS LCD phone running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. It has a 1.2Ghz Quad Core Processor. The Processor isn’t the normal Mediatek stuff found on other Tecnos. No. This is a Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor. It has a rear 5MP camera and a front VGA camera. Here is everything on the Tecno B5s.

Enter Wiko.

There is this new company claiming to be very big in Europe. I say claiming because for the 3 years I have been following tech, I hadn’t heard of them until they started in Kenya a couple of months ago. Anyway their phones look pretty decent and I wouldn’t mind testing one or two. Soon enough. They have a Ksh 32,000 phone I must see.

6. Wiko Fizz

The name is Fizz. The company is Wiko.

This phone runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. It has a dual core 1Ghz Processor. It is 4 inches with 4GB internal memory. The rear camera is 5MP while the front one is a VGA shooter. You can get it at Ksh. 10999.

5. Wiko Sunset

The name of the phone is Sunset. The company is Wiko.

It is 4 inches. It runs Android 4.4 Kitkat. It has 4GB internal storage. The cameras are 3.2MP rear and 1.2MP front. The processor is a dual core 1.3Ghz. It comes in various colours. Available at Ksh. 9000. If you ask me, between Fizz and Sunset I’d go for Sunset.

6. Wiko Goa

The name of the phone is Goa. The company is Wiko. LOL I know.

Goa is 3.5 inches. The screen display is HVGA which is almost cool. The rear camera is 3.2MP and the front camera is 1.2MP. It runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean on a Dual Core processor clocked at 1Ghz. It is available at Ksh. 6700.

All these ‘Wikos’ are dual SIM phones.

Enter Infinix

It may prove hard for you to find the below listed phones.

7. Infinix Race Bolt

Has 8MP rear camera. Is 4.5 inches and runs Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. Has a dual core 1Ghz Processor.

8. Infinix Surfs: Surf Viva, Surf Spice, Surf Smart, Surf Bravo

If you are not an Android person, you can go with the following Windows Phones:

9. Microsoft Lumia 520

10. Microsoft Lumia 530

If you are a Samsung fanatic, you can die a slow death while using the following:

  • Samsung Galaxy Pocket, Young etc
  • Samsung Galaxy Music
  • Samsung Galaxy S3 Lite
  • Samsung Galaxy Aces, Stars etc

I already said Samsung might be exiting the Kenyan market that’s why we can’t see any new releases from them. Quality and affordable is what we need.

Is there a phone I haven’t listed here that you think ought to be on the list? Feel free to tell me about it on the comment section below.

Here’s the latest list of Best under 20K.

I love reading emails when bored. I am joking. But do send them to editor@tech-ish.com.

    1. Wiko phones are in many phone shops in town (Nairobi). I’ve also seen some shops in Kisumu. But you can ask them on Facebook or Twitter whether or not they’re available where you are :-)
