TECNO have recently announced a new ultra-affordable tablet dubbed the DroiPad 7D that runs Android 7 Nougat. It is available countrywide for less than Ksh. 10,000 and that’s why it is interesting. Many would want to buy it and here is what you should know:
Display:
It has a 7 inch 600*1024 IPS display. The display isn’t fully laminated so you can notice some gap between the touch panel and the actual panel. But that’s not a problem as it is normal with devices at this price range.
The display is also not High Definition as many would love. Though that doesn’t take away the fact that it is bright and use-able both indoors and outdoors.
Being that it isn’t a HD panel, you will not enjoy HD videos on the YouTube app. You will be capped at 480p. Which is good for your data bundles consumption. But if you want to watch HD and full HD videos you can stream from the Browser (it works) or add the file and play it using a video player app.
Software:
The DroiPad 7D runs Android 7 Nougat which is a very good thing. Android Nougat features like multi-window come in very handy on such a huge device. So you can use Whatsapp while browsing on Chrome or while watching something on YouTube.
The skin on top of Android is very light and anyone who will find their way around easily while using this tablet.
Performance:
It has 1GB RAM and 16GB storage. It also has a 1.3 GHz MT8321D QuadCore processor. Though pretty low-end, they perform agreeably well for the price range. I have had lags here and there on heavy apps (I tried gaming).
But tablet still works well with Chrome and other normal must have apps.
You can comfortably switch between apps, webpages without noticing delays or lags. I was amazed webpages on Chrome stay in memory even with a couple of apps open. Maybe that’s because Android Nougat has good memory management.
SD Card:
There’s a Micro-SD card slot. In the past that wouldn’t mean much but extra storage for files. But with Android Nougat you can format the SD Card as internal storage and install all you want.
Battery:
The tablet comes with a 3000mAh in-built battery. Which is a shame for a company that has 6 inch phones like the L9 Plus offering over 5000mAh. But factoring in price and display quality, you won’t have a big problem with battery life.
What I like most from the few days I’ve interacted with the tablet is the fact that it has very good standby time. Like I can live it connected to WiFi overnight at say 40% and wake up find it at 38%. Unlike the a little bit pricy TECNO Phonepad 3 whose standby time is really bad.
Cameras:
There’s nothing much to talk about the cameras. They do their job. But seems there’s no Auto Focus on the 5MP rear camera. I will attach images in the full review coming soon.
Finally…
Await my full review in a few days. Tell me what else you want to know so that I can include it in the full review.
