OPPO F5 officially launched in Kenya

AI-powered selfies, Face Unlock, 20MP front camera and an 18:9 aspect ratio

This week OPPO Kenya unveiled their Premium OPPO F5 model during an event at Raddison Blu hotel. The device is OPPO’s first Full HD+ (2160×1080) with a Full Screen display in Kenya, featuring the groundbreaking A.I. Beauty Recognition Technology – a technology designed to personalize beautification for subjects according to the facial feature and the surrounding environment to give the best Selfie experience and help to “Capture the Real You”.

Pre-orders for the F5 are currently open. Sales start on November 28th. And the phone will be retailing at Ksh. 31,990.

OPPO F5 is the first smart phone to bring Artificial Intelligence into selfie feature in Kenya. A technology that identifies shapes and facial structures based on a global database emulating skills that help selfies look more real and natural.

The 20MP front camera has an F2.0 aperture. OPPO claims the camera is able gain more information with this sensor to produce better images with less noise in low light conditions. The front-camera has Portrait mode which allows for the loved Bokeh effect that few front cameras currently can boast of.

The back camera is 16MP with an F1.8 aperture. Which sounds quite promising for both day and night shots.

The most exciting feature for me though is the 6 inch display with that new 18:9 aspect ratio. It gives the phone that new look we’ve been seeing with recent flagships. Not yet sure of whether they used an OLED or LCD panel. But I am willing to bet, at this price point, it is an LCD display.

OPPO F5 supports Face Unlock too. But until I test it personally, I cannot be sure whether it works well or it can be fooled easily. It is important to note that face unlock feature has been on Android for quite a while. But it was always easily fooled and many OEMs have not been including it. Maybe OPPO has built something really good.

The device supports dual SIM cards and has room for a micro-SD card. The full specs are down below.

There’s an OPPO F5 6GB RAM version that comes with 64GB storage that will be available in the coming weeks. There’s also the OPPO F5 Youth variant which is a more budget friendly version.
