Nokia C1 Android Go smartphone now available for KES. 5999

Nokia C1 Android Go phone is now on sale in Kenya. The new Nokia C1 unlike the past one is a smartphone running Android 9 Pie (Go edition). It comes with 1GB RAM, 16GB storage.

There’s a 2500mAh battery that powers the 5.45 inch 480p display.

At it’s price point, the new C1 competes directly with all Android Go smartphones in the market. That includes the Redmi Go which features the same specs, a HD display, plus starts at KES. 5499.

The biggest undoing of the Nokia C1 isn’t the display, no. It is the fact that it doesn’t support 4G networks. For a 2020 phone I wish they thought this through. Even the cheaper Safaricom Neon phones have 4G support, and they’ve sold way over half a million units this year.

Speaking during the official unveil, Mark Misumi, Business Manager, HMD Global, said, “As consumers in Kenya look to upgrade from a feature phone to an affordable 3G experience, we wanted to ensure that we offer them a smartphone that offers the Nokia brand values of quality, reliability and ease of use. We have designed the Nokia C1 as an affordable 3G alternative for these consumers – offering them a combination of a large 5.45” screen and all-day battery life.”

HMD global says the phone stands out thanks to its stylish metallic finish. It’s built with a durable polycarbonate cover to withstand the knocks of everyday life and look good doing it. The removable cover gives you access to the battery if needed. There’s also a dedicated Google Assistant button.
