At the beginning of the month, this site was the first to share information of the then expected Infinix S5. Well, the device is now official in India. And it starts at approximately KES. 13,000 for 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.
Of course in Kenya, for that price you’ll be getting less RAM and Storage. We’ve see this happen with most Infinix phones where the variants sold in Africa are differently spec’d for almost same launch prices in India. Remember, these phones are made in India, so incentives must be what makes them cheaper there.
The Infinix S5 is an update to the Infinix S4 that was launched earlier this year. Infinix is changing their update cycle most likely to counter strong competition from other phone sellers in the world.
What’s new?
There’s now 4 back cameras featuring a 16-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, a 2-megapixel Super Macro lens capable of shooting at a proximity of 2.5cm, a 5-megapixel wide-angle lens with a 114-degree field of view, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor.
On the front there’s a single 32MP selfie shooter with an f/2.0 aperture. It is crazy that the idea of punch-hole displays that we once thought was a reserve for very expensive gadgets is already making its way to budget phones.
The phone comes running Android 9 Pie with their XOS 5.5 Cheetah skin. It is powered by a Helio P22 SoC, and a 4000mAh battery.
The display is a 720p panel with an aspect ratio of 20:9. Which means it is a tall phone. The company boasts of 90.5% screen-to-body ratio, and up to 480 nits of screen brightness for the LCD panel.
Availability in Kenya:
Pricing and availability in Kenya is yet to be confirmed. But should it come, we should expect two or even three variants that will differ only in RAM and Storage options. I expect the 3/32GB model will be the one that will be about KES. 13,000.
