Vivo has announced a new phone in Bangladesh. It is the Vivo Y19C 2020. The “2020” is part of the device’s name in order to differentiate it from the previous Y19C. However the upgrades are minor.
For the specs; there’s a 6.22-inches display with 1520 × 720 pixels screen resolution. The exact dimensions of the device are 155.11×75.09×8.28mm and it weighs 163.5g. It is powered by an octa-core Helio P22 SoC with 2GB worth of RAM, and 32GB internal storage. The battery is a huge 4030mah cell.
There’s a single 13MP camera at the back, plus a 5MP selfie camera at the front.
The weird thing about this device is that it runs Android 8.1 Oreo. Which is way too old to be launching with a 2020 phone. I think they’ve just been repackaging an old device with slightly new specs, but not bothering to update the OS. Which points to either their laziness, or the fact that FuntouchOS is just weird and heavy and not easily upgradable.
The device is currently only available in Bangladesh. We aren’t sure if Vivo Kenya would consider bringing it to the Kenyan market to fill in their budget segment. But what’s assured is that it’ll be a terrible idea to launch a phone in Kenya with Android 8.1 in 2020! No matter the price. The Redmi 8A from Xiaomi is just below 10k, and is already rumored to be receiving Android 10 despite packing really good specs that would make it excusable if it stayed un-updated.
