On 13th March, Samsung announced the availability of the new Galaxy S20 Series in the Kenyan market. These are the official recommended prices of the new phones:
- Galaxy S20 Ultra – KES. 130,000
- Galaxy S20 Plus – KES. 104,000
- Galaxy S20 – KES. 94,000
The prices are fairer compared to what we expected and compared to prices in other markets. This is perhaps due to the fact that these new devices aren’t 5G ready. There’s still no official 5G carrier in Kenya, though Safaricom is said to have been testing the new network with Huawei equipment around Nairobi. Earlier on, Samsung had said if 5G becomes available, these phones could receive a software update to make them 5G ready as they already have 5G modems in-built. We’ll have to wait and see this.
