Update: Unboxing and Guide to Installing Apps:
Huawei Mobile Kenya has confirmed they will be officially launching the Huawei Y7p on April 17th 2020. The new device, will be their first HMS (Huawei Mobile Services) phone in the Kenyan market, and will not feature Google Mobile Services, and apps. The company says the device is aimed at changing the market dynamic through its offering.
When Huawei announced the P40 series, I wrote this article saying Huawei was ready to lure us to a non-Google ecosystem with incredible hardware. I believe that could still their approach: give us really good hardware at a low cost to make people reconsider their options. However the lack of Android 10 and lack of USB type-C may make this new device difficult to consider for many people.
Stepping up from other smartphones in the mid-range segment, the HUAWEI Y7p’s key feature is its 48MP AI Triple camera setup, which is comprised of a 48MP main camera that focuses on high resolution images and videos, an 8MP ultra-wide camera for 120-degree ultra-wide photos and videos and a 2MP depth assist camera for depth-of-field effects. We’ve seen a couple of 48MP phones in this range already announced: The new Camon 15 series, the new Infinix Note 7 series, and Xiaomi’s incredible Redmi Note 9 series.
The Y7p is powered by Huawei’s own Kirin 710F which we’ve seen on a couple of Huawei phones last year. It runs Android 9 Pie AOSP with Huawei Mobile Services. There’s a 4000mAh battery with 10W charging.
Speaking of the soon to be launched device, Huawei Mobile Kenya Country Head, Jim Zhujie said, “Mid-range smartphones are often limited by their price point, which leads to them having to sacrifice key features. Even users who opt for smartphones in this segment have to settle for less. However, Huawei’s famed Y series adds a spin to this segment with smartphones that bring powerful features and trend-setting designs seen on flagship devices. The latest addition to this series is the HUAWEI Y7p, which brings to the segment a powerful 48MP AI Triple camera, a stylish design, solid performance features and a lot more.”
“In addition to this, the HUAWEI Y7p also brings to the segment powerful AI, which recognizes more than 500 scenes in 21 categories such as beaches, sky, fireworks etc, and adjusts the required settings for a perfect shot. Having this setup gives its users a chance to get creative and enjoy the best of smartphone photography and videography, without having to go out of their budget.’ He concluded.
