Before the Galaxy A-series was revamped early last year, Samsung introduced the Galaxy M-series. They were really good devices, with very competitive pricing and were a clear step away from Samsung’s overpriced J and A-series at that time. The problem was that these devices were not available anywhere else apart from India.
As it seems, finally, Samsung is officially bringing the M-series to the African market. And the first device is already available and on sale. Samsung has said nothing on this launch, just quietly pushed it and said it is available on their social media pages. Which is weird. Or maybe it is just communication that is slow nowadays. A quiet launch without pushing could mean very poor sales, but let’s wait and see what the company does in the coming days.
The Galaxy M-series competes almost directly with the Galaxy A-series. There’s not much of a difference in how they’re priced and how aggressive they can get in pushing specs. Much like with Transsion and Xiaomi, these are their devices that try to bring out the most in a limited budget.
Where Samsung wins, however, is that they have a big name. Their brand name sells. Not only that, but they’ve also future-proofed their devices. As you will see in the specs table below, this is a phone you can use for a while – provided they send out updates quite often.
There’s USB type-C with 15W fast charging to help fill up the massive 5000mAh battery. There’s a 6.4-inch display that’s not Full HD, like most devices it is competing with, and there’s a punch-hole display housing the 8MP selfie lens that gives it the “modern” aesthetic many companies are pushing this year. On the back, there’s a 13MP main camera, a 5MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP bokeh lens.
Everything is powered by a Snapdragon 450 processor with either 3GB or 4GB RAM. You also get either 32GB or 64GB internal storage.
The M11 competes directly with all the recent launched phones from TECNO, Infinix, Huawei, and Xiaomi. Which one would you go with?
