Infinix HOT 10T vs Samsung Galaxy A12; Which one to buy?
If you’re in the market for a great device from between KES 14,000 and KES 19,000, there are two devices your eyes may be drawn to. These are the new Infinix HOT 10T and the new Galaxy A12 from Samsung. In this post we are going to check out both devices specifications to help you figure out which of the two devices you should go for.
Before we get started, I’d like you to have a device in mind, then we will see what device you end up choosing at the end of this comparison. The prices of these two phones are as follows:
- Infinix HOT 10T – KES 15,499 for 4GB RAM, 64GB Storage or KES 17,499 for 4GB RAM, 128GB Storage
- Samsung Galaxy A12 – KES 16,500 for 4GB RAM and 64GB Storage or KES 18,000 for 4GB RAM and 128GB Storage
So from the on-set, the Infinix HOT 10T is slightly cheaper to acquire. What’s exciting about both devices is how we are now getting more RAM and more Storage than we’ve ever had at such budget points.
Display:
Both phones come with a HD+ display. Unfortunately these aren’t full HD 1080p plus panels. However, Infinix has added something that Samsung still only has on its high end devices: a high refresh rate. The HOT 10T supports 90Hz refresh rates ensuring the content you view on your display is smooth and sweet especially when scrolling or gaming.
Meanwhile the Samsung A12 still uses a 60Hz panel as with most devices within the price range. So if you want a high refresh rate display, between the two only the Infinix will matter.
Cameras:
Both have 48MP main cameras, and 8MP selfie cameras. So in terms of specs it is a tie. Infinix has been consistently good with its cameras for its budget devices for a while now. And so you can expect really good shots from whatever lens they’re using and whatever algorithms they will have in play to process the photos.
Samsung on the other hand is known to make really great cameras for their devices. So, the shots from this device should be consistent with other higher end phones. Therefore from both cameras, you can expect steady, serviceable cameras.
However, only the Samsung has an ultra-wide extra lens. So if you’re in to ultra-wide shots, you only have the Samsung to choose. It is the only one also with a macro camera if you’ll ever use it.
In terms of the front camera, you can expect the same results in clarity, sharpness etc from the 8MP selfies on both devices. That’s a given since there’s not much difference in selfie cameras across the board. If you’ll be taking selfies in low-light, the Infinix HOT 10T includes LED Flash to brighten your surroundings. Which is a plus for many people.
Performance:
Now here’s where things get super interesting. For many, this is the deciding factor:
- Samsung uses a Helio P35 Processor – this is a chip released back in 2018.
- Infinix uses a Helio G70 Processor – this is a gaming chip released in 2020.
It is obvious the G70 processors is more powerful than the P35. But there are other things to consider such as RAM size, and Storage type used. Luckily, this is an easy pick since both devices use 4GB RAM and both devices use eMMC 5.1 storage types. So with those in mind, it is everyone’s guess that the HOT 10T will be much faster in performance.
User Interface and System Updates:
This also acts as an important deciding factor for many buyers. And these are very important things to consider:
- The Samsung runs Android 10. It has started receiving Android 11 with OneUI 3.1. There’s minimal bloatware, and minimal to completely no ads completely in the interface.
- The Infinix runs Android 10 with XOS 7.6 Skin on top. There have been no timelines issued for when Android 11 will arrive on the device. There’s a significant amount of bloatware pre-installed, and you will need to find ways to uninstall unwanted apps, block ads, and remove notifications.
Samsung now promises more years of updates and support which Infinix cannot boast of. So if you’re one who wants a device they will use for years to come, the Samsung is the device to consider.
Battery:
Both have 5000mAh batteries and both can give you over 1 day of continuous normal use before requiring you to charge it again. So that’s great.
However, the Infinix charges at a maximum of 10W while the Samsung charges at a maximum of 15W. Though this is a small difference, it may affect just how fast your phone fills up when you need more battery.
Other details:
- Infinix uses microUSB while Samsung uses USB Type-C
- Both have rear fingerprint scanners to unlock and access device
- Both support Bluetooth 5.0
- Both have 3.5mm headphone jacks.
- Both have a variety of colour options to choose from.
