Kenya has won its bid to host the 2024 Transform Africa Summit (TAS), set for April 2024. The announcement was made in Barcelona by the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, Mr. Eliud Owalo, expressed pride in the win. He called it a testament to Kenya’s position as an ICT powerhouse and leader in using technology for social and economic growth.
The Transform Africa Summit is an annual forum organized by the Smart Africa Alliance, a pan-African ICT agency. The summit brings together leaders from governments, businesses, and international organizations to collaborate on strategies for advancing Africa’s digital future. It attracts over 5,000 delegates from across the continent and the world. In 2023, the Summit took place in Zimbabwe.
Kenya has expressed a deep commitment to hosting a world-class Summit later this year. The country’s Communications Authority (CA) sees the event as a unique opportunity to share ideas, address challenges, and shape a sustainable digital economy for the continent.
Hosting this tech summit is expected to place Kenya at the forefront of technological innovation in Africa. It will provide a platform for the country to showcase its ICT advancements and learn from peers across the continent.
This marks a significant milestone for Kenya, as it is the first time the Transform Africa Summit will be held in the country in its 10-year history. This is a major achievement for the country’s tech sector and is expected to boost its profile as a leader in digital innovation.
