Leadership Insights:
Eva Ngigi-Sarwari, Visa’s Country Manager for Kenya, expressed her enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are thrilled to be partnering with Carrefour to reward loyal Visa cardholders and enhance their shopping experience. This initiative is part of our broader strategy to improve the payment experience at key retail partners and drive digital payment adoption across the country. By integrating our advanced payment solutions with Carrefour’s extensive retail network, we aim to provide a seamless shopping experience that aligns with the lifestyle and expectations of modern consumers.”
Christophe Orcet, Regional Director – East Africa at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, echoed similar sentiments, saying, “Our partnership with Visa, a globally recognised leader in digital payments, aligns perfectly with our commitment to providing added convenience and value. By leveraging Visa’s seamless payment solutions and our extensive retail network, we aim to offer customers a truly rewarding shopping experience. The campaign leverages the increasing number of transactions at point-of-sale (POS) terminals and online, reflecting a steady growth in digital payments in Kenya. According to the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), card transactions at POS terminals reached nearly 5 million in February 2024, up from 3.9 million in February 2023 and 3.66 million in February 2022. This growth underscores the rising acceptance and reliance on digital payment methods among Kenyan consumers.
Conclusion:
This partnership between Visa and Carrefour marks a significant step in enhancing the shopping experience for Kenyan consumers while promoting the adoption of digital payments. As the number of digital transactions continues to grow, initiatives like this will play a crucial role in shaping the future of retail and payments in Kenya. Shoppers can look forward to a seamless, rewarding experience whether they shop in-store or online, enjoying the convenience and benefits of using Visa’s advanced payment solutions.
