As the 2024 LOOP Safari Gravel Series approaches its climax, excitement is mounting among cycling enthusiasts across the region. Scheduled for August 24, 2024, at the picturesque Vipingo Ridge, the final leg of this prestigious series promises to be a thrilling conclusion to an already remarkable event. This series, which has been a staple for cyclists from around the world, kicked off in February at Tatu City and has since captivated audiences and participants alike through its challenging courses in Iten and Hell’s Gate.
Before the curtain rises on the final race, the series paused to honor the champions of the Naivasha leg, which took place earlier in the year. A special ceremony was hosted to celebrate these winners, acknowledging the grit and determination that has characterized the entire competition.
Eric Muriuki, CEO of LOOP DFS, reflected on the journey so far, stating, “The LOOP Safari Gravel Race Series has provided an excellent platform for our riders to showcase their skills and determination. We are proud to celebrate the Naivasha winners and eagerly anticipate the final leg in Vipingo. With its unique course and scenic beauty, Vipingo will offer an unforgettable finale to this remarkable series.”
In Naivasha, both individual cyclists and teams were recognized for their outstanding performances. The top three clubs in the 120 km LOOP category—Black Mamba Development Squad, Ariya Finergy Solar Vortex, and Kenyan Riders—received KES 150,000, KES 100,000, and KES 75,000, respectively. The men’s category saw Jordan Schleck, Eric Muhoza, and Edwin Kieya take the top three spots, earning KES 20,000, KES 15,000, and KES 10,000, respectively. In the women’s category, Xaveline Nirere, Claudette Nyirahabimana, and Mary Aleper also received cash prizes for their podium finishes.
Jordan Schleck, reflecting on his victory in Naivasha, described the experience as both challenging and rewarding, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to compete at such a high level. Hanifa Said of Team AMANI echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the endurance, skill, and sportsmanship that have been on display throughout the series, and expressing confidence that the Vipingo leg will be a fitting finale.
