“Huawei is committed to empowering instructors with the tools and knowledge needed to produce skilled ICT professionals. This workshop reflects our long-term dedication to supporting digital education in Kenya,” said Ms. Zheng during her opening remarks.

Reviewing Progress and Future Goals

The workshop began with a review of the Huawei ICT Academy’s achievements and upcoming initiatives. Led by Mr. Michael Kamau, Huawei ICT Academy Manager, and Mr. Yuta Leng, Public Relations Expert, the session provided insights into the academy’s progress over the past year. Among the highlights was the academy’s expansion and its impact on building Kenya’s ICT talent pool.

A major focus of the discussion was the Huawei ICT Competition, an annual event that fosters innovation and technical skills among Kenyan students. Huawei announced the opening of the 9th Edition of the competition, with free registration now available. The competition features two main tracks: the Practice Track, covering network, cloud, and computing technologies, and the AI Innovation Track. Participants will receive training and access to e-learning resources, with national, regional, and global finals taking place between 2024 and 2025.

In addition to the student competition, Huawei introduced the Instructor Competition, aimed at promoting excellence among ICT instructors. The competition will highlight innovative teaching methods and case studies, encouraging the integration of key technologies such as AI and cloud computing into education. The goal is to set global benchmarks for instructor performance, further motivating instructors and enhancing the quality of ICT training in Kenya.

Performance Review and Best Practices

The workshop also included a review of the academy’s key performance indicators (KPIs) from the last quarter, providing an overview of the academy’s impact on Kenya’s ICT education ecosystem. Instructors and participants discussed goals for the upcoming academic year, focusing on improving the quality of instruction and expanding opportunities for both students and educators.

A case presentation on managing professional exam centers was also a key part of the workshop. This session focused on Huawei’s globally recognized certifications, including the Huawei Certified ICT Professional (HCIP) and Huawei Certified ICT Expert (HCIE). These certifications are essential for individuals looking to advance their ICT careers. The discussion offered practical insights on improving the exam process, maintaining high standards, and increasing success rates for students pursuing these certifications.

Building a Strong ICT Talent Pipeline

Since the launch of Huawei’s first ICT Academy in Kenya in 2017, the program has grown significantly, partnering with local educational institutions to build a robust talent pipeline. The academy has trained thousands of students and instructors, providing access to Huawei’s advanced technologies and global expertise.

The workshop concluded with a call to action for continued collaboration between Huawei and educational institutions to strengthen Kenya’s ICT ecosystem. Participants emphasized the importance of partnerships in creating opportunities for students to gain critical ICT skills and certifications, which are essential for driving digital transformation in the country.
