Airtel Kenya Introduces Data ImeData Campaign, Offers Up to 50% More Data on Plans

Airtel Kenya has rolled out a new campaign called “Data ImeData” that brings substantial changes to their Weekly and Monthly data plans, just in time for the festive season. The campaign is designed to give customers more data at existing price points, catering to the increasing demand for reliable, high-speed internet access in Kenya.

Overview of the Data ImeData Campaign

The Data ImeData Campaign is a push to provide Airtel customers with more data for the same prices they were already paying, offering up to 50% more data on selected plans. These adjustments apply to both Weekly and Monthly packages, allowing users to enjoy an upgraded digital experience without paying extra. Along with the data boosts, the plans also come with Free WhatsApp access, enabling users to stay connected with friends and family without using up their regular data allowance.

Why the Data ImeData Campaign?

Data use in Kenya has been steadily rising as people spend more time online for work, learning, and socializing. According to the Communications Authority of Kenya, data services now make up a staggering 97.2% of all internet subscriptions in the country. With such high demand, Airtel has responded by revising its data packages to offer more value without increasing prices. The campaign also aligns with Airtel’s ongoing network expansions, particularly in 4G and 5G infrastructure, to provide faster and more reliable internet access across Kenya.

What’s New in Airtel’s Data Plans?

Here’s a breakdown of the updated Weekly and Monthly plans under the Data ImeData Campaign:

Under the new structure:

  • Weekly Plans: The KES 50 plan now offers 450MB, up from 350MB, and the KES 100 plan offers 1.2GB, up from 750MB.
  • Monthly Plans: The KES 500 plan now offers 7.5GB instead of 5GB, while the KES 1,000 and KES 2,000 plans now provide 18GB and 40GB, respectively, significantly more than their previous 12GB and 30GB allocations.

The Amazing Monthly KES 250 plan remains at 3GB but is now available at KES 250, down from KES 300, making it slightly more affordable.

Features of the Data ImeData Campaign

  1. Free WhatsApp: All Weekly and Monthly data plans under this campaign come with Free WhatsApp access, allowing users to send messages, photos, and videos without consuming their regular data.
  2. Gifting Option: Airtel customers can gift their data bundles to other Airtel users, making it easier to share data with friends or family members who might need it.
  3. Extend Bundle Validity: Customers can now extend the validity of their data bundles by either purchasing another bundle before the current one expires or opting for the auto-renew option. This ensures that users don’t lose unused data due to expiry, adding value to their purchase.
  4. USSD and App Accessibility: Airtel has made it simple for customers to buy these bundles through USSD (*544#) or the My Airtel App.

Airtel Kenya has been actively expanding its 4G and 5G networks across the country, aiming to deliver faster and more stable internet connectivity. Data ImeData vs. GB kwa GB Campaign

This campaign follows the GB kwa GB initiative launched earlier in the year, which encouraged customers to upgrade their devices to take full advantage of Airtel’s expanding 4G and 5G networks. While GB kwa GB focused on device upgrades, Data ImeData zeroes in on increasing data allowances without raising costs. Both initiatives reflect Airtel’s broader effort to drive digital inclusion across Kenya.

Airtel customers can quickly access these new bundles via:

  • USSD Code: Dial *544# and follow the prompts to choose the Weekly or Monthly bundle that best suits their needs.
  • My Airtel App: The app provides a more interactive way to select and purchase bundles while offering additional options for managing account settings, auto-renewals, and checking bundle balances.
