TECNO to Unveil DeepSeek-Powered AI at MWC 2025: What You Need to Know

TECNO is set to announce its partnership with DeepSeek at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, taking place in Barcelona from March 3 to 6. This move comes as TECNO prepares to launch the Camon 40 series, a new set of reality glasses, and the latest additions to its Megabook lineup, reinforcing its commitment to AIOT (Artificial Intelligence of Things).

Previously, TECNO relied on Ella AI, its in-house AI system, which was connected to Google’s Gemini. Ella AI leveraged Natural Language Processing (NLP) to enable features such as real-time translations, conversational assistance, and smart content creation. While effective, TECNO is now making a major shift – one that promises even greater AI capabilities at lower costs.

Is TECNO fully Switching to DeepSeek?

TECNO isn’t the first company to announce integration of DeepSeek. We already saw a similar announcement from OPPO.

At first glance, one might assume that TECNO’s partnership with DeepSeek is simply because both companies are based in China. However, there must be a deeper reason behind this strategic move. DeepSeek has quickly emerged as a major player in the AI space, offering a cost-effective yet high-performance alternative to models like Google’s Gemini and OpenAI’s o1.

DeepSeek’s AI models, particularly DeepSeek-R1, have been making headlines for their exceptional reasoning capabilities. This model has been found to outperform many competitors in key areas such as mathematical problem-solving, coding tasks, and language comprehension. What makes DeepSeek even more attractive to TECNO is its ability to deliver these powerful AI capabilities at a fraction of the cost. DeepSeek is also open source.

Arguable Advantages of DeepSeek Over Google’s Gemini

1. Perhaps DeepSeek is offering Enhanced Performance & Efficiency

DeepSeek’s models are designed to deliver faster response times, improved contextual understanding, and better reasoning capabilities. For TECNO AI users, this may translate to smoother and more intuitive interactions, improving user experience across multiple applications.

2. Perhaps DeepSeek is offering Superior Task Handling & Multi-Modal Integration

While Gemini remains a strong NLP-based AI, DeepSeek has proven to handle larger and more complex tasks with superior efficiency without much compute. Features like real-time translation and AI-driven multi-modal integration – which involve processing text, images, and videos – could work even better under DeepSeek’s models.

3. Cost-Effectiveness

One of the biggest reasons for this shift is cost. DeepSeek’s AI models have been built with lower training and operational costs, making AI features accessible to midrange and budget smartphones. This move aligns with TECNO’s strategy of offering flagship-level features at affordable prices, ensuring that AI-powered enhancements are available to a wider audience.

What This Means for TECNO Users

The switch to DeepSeek will likely bring major improvements in AI-driven features on TECNO devices. Some of the key benefits include:

  • Faster and Smarter AI Assistants – Users can expect quicker responses, better voice recognition, and improved contextual understanding for AI-driven interactions. The teaser says TECNO AI, no mention of Ella. We may see both systems. Or Ella may integrate both Gemini and DeepSeek for different tasks just like Apple is doing with both Gemini and ChatGPT.
  • Advanced AI Translation – DeepSeek-powered devices may offer more accurate real-time translations, making it easier to communicate in multiple languages.
  • Enhanced AI Camera Features – Expect AI-driven photography improvements, such as real-time object recognition, intelligent scene optimization, and better computational photography.
  • AI-Powered Productivity Tools – Features like smart text summarization, AI-generated content suggestions, and voice command automation will enhance productivity and efficiency.
TECNO will launch the Camon 40 Series at MWC 2025, featuring enhanced Universal Tone technology, improved cameras, and AI-driven photography.

TECNO vs Galaxy AI: Can It Compete?

Samsung’s Galaxy AI has positioned itself as the leader in on-device AI, but TECNO’s move to DeepSeek could introduce serious competition. By leveraging DeepSeek’s efficient AI models, TECNO could offer similar AI-powered features at a much lower price point.

The big question now is whether TECNO will beat companies like Samsung in the midrange and budget smartphone segments when it comes to AI performance. If DeepSeek’s models continue to improve and deliver superior AI capabilities at lower costs, TECNO’s AI-driven devices could become something worth watching in the smartphone industry.
