Comparing the 5G and 4G Models
The OPPO Reno 13F series is available in Kenya in two nearly identical variants: a 4G model priced at KES 37,999 and a 5G model at KES 57,999. Externally, both models appear indistinguishable, sharing the same design, display specifications, and battery capacity. However, their internal differences are critical when evaluating long-term value.
The Reno 13F 5G is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 processor and UFS 3.1 storage, whereas the 4G version runs on the MediaTek Helio G100 and utilizes UFS 2.2 storage. These differences in processing power and read/write speed justify the higher price tag, especially for users seeking future-proof connectivity and improved performance. That said, the KES 20,000 price gap is quite high, and will definitely make the more affordable 4G option appealing to more buyers.

Design and Durability
I think we’ve often been amazed with OPPO’s design and build quality. They have a reputation for sleek and ergonomic smartphone designs, and the Reno 13F 5G continues that tradition. It is available in Graphite Grey, Plume Purple, and Luminous Blue color options. Despite housing a large battery, the phone remains slim and well-balanced in hand, it’s not heavy, and it’s not thick.
One of the most outstanding features of this device is its triple IP certification: IP66, IP68, and IP69. This combination offers protection against dust, high-pressure water jets, and immersion in water. Moreover, the Reno 13F 5G supports a dedicated underwater photography mode, eliminating the need for an external waterproof case, something no other phone is offering in this price segment.
Display and Viewing Experience
The device features a 6.67-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 394 PPI density, and a 92.2% screen-to-body ratio. The visuals are crisp, vibrant, and fluid. A helpful feature called Splash Touch allows users to interact with the screen even when it is wet, aligning well with the phone’s water-resistant build. While the display performs well in most conditions, brightness under direct sunlight could be improved, but that’s not a significant drawback.
Camera System: Capable Yet Inconsistent
The Reno 13F 5G offers a triple-camera setup on the rear — a 50MP main sensor, 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP macro sensor — accompanied by a 32MP front-facing camera.
- Still Photography: Images are acceptable in well-lit environments, although the phone heavily relies on computational processing. Photos often undergo noticeable enhancements immediately after capture, which may result in visuals that appear overly processed.
- Macro Shots: While the feature is enjoyable, image sharpness is inconsistent.
- Video Performance: The 5G variant supports 4K video recording, while the 4G model is capped at 1080P. Despite this, video output suffers from issues related to dynamic range and exposure shifts, particularly in fluctuating lighting conditions.
Given OPPO’s history of strong camera performance in higher-end devices, the camera system on the Reno 13F 5G feels underwhelming.

Software Experience and Bloatware Concerns
The phone runs on ColorOS 15, OPPO’s custom Android skin known for its customization options and robust feature set. However, this release marks a shift toward a more cluttered software experience.
Users are greeted with numerous pre-installed games and redundant apps, including an additional OPPO app store alongside the Google Play Store. Although most of these apps can be uninstalled, the initial user experience feels overwhelming. Ideally, OPPO should provide an option during setup to choose between a clean or full-featured interface.
Artificial Intelligence Features
AI integration is a highlight of the Reno 13F 5G. Several AI tools, once exclusive to OPPO’s flagship devices, are now available in this mid-range model:
- AI Photo Enhancer and Unblur: Enhance clarity in soft or blurry images.
- AI Reflection Remover: Automatically eliminates glare and mirrored surfaces.
- AI Studio Suite: Enables the creation of avatars, artistic portraits, and group compositions.
- AI HyperBoost: Optimizes gaming performance and has received the TÜV SÜD Lag-Free Gaming Certification.
- AI Livephoto: Captures motion shots and supports sharing with iOS devices.
These tools enhance the creative possibilities and gaming reliability of the device.
Battery Life and Charging
The Reno 13F 5G boasts a 5800mAh battery, the largest we’ve ever used in an OPPO smartphone – can’t wait for the 6000mAh+ phones. On this unit, it easily delivers up to two days of battery life under moderate usage. Power users will appreciate the reliable endurance.
The included 45W SUPERVOOC charger can replenish the battery from 1% to 44% in approximately 30 minutes. OPPO further claims that, thanks to Silicon-Carbide battery technology, the battery will retain at least 80% of its original capacity after 1,600 charge cycles, which translates to roughly four years of daily charging.
Audio and Connectivity Enhancements
- The phone features dual stereo speakers and Ultra Volume Mode, capable of increasing audio output by up to 300%. You won’t use that feature unless it’s extremely loud where you live.
- Security options include an in-display fingerprint scanner and facial recognition. I never try out facial recognition, I just stick to the fingerprint scanner, which so far has been reliable.
- AI LinkBoost and BeaconLink are included to maintain strong signal reception, particularly in low-network environments.

Verdict: A Feature-Packed Yet Mixed Experience
The OPPO Reno 13F 5G brings a compelling mix of rugged design, smart AI features, and excellent battery life. Its IP69 rating, AI capabilities, and long-lasting battery make it a standout in several respects.
However, drawbacks such as inconsistent camera performance, excessive bloatware, and the significant pricing gapbetween the 4G and 5G models may affect its appeal to certain users.
Those seeking performance, durability, and future-ready connectivity will find value in the 5G version – if you consider the phone in a vacuum where competition doesn’t exist. Conversely, buyers prioritizing cost over speed may lean toward the 4G variant — knowing that they’re missing only a few performance-related upgrades.
Overall, the Reno 13F 5G is a reliable, feature-rich smartphone that balances ambition with a few compromises. It is especially suitable for users who value battery longevity, creative tools, and rugged build quality.
