Hayo has received Content and Applications Service Provider licences from Kenya’s ICT regulator, paving the way for expanded services and deeper investment into the country’s fast-growing digital economy.

Hayo, a global digital solutions company, has officially secured both the Content Service Provider (CSP) and Applications Service Provider (ASP) licences from the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA). This marks a significant regulatory milestone, allowing the company to offer a wider range of communications and digital services in Kenya and laying the foundation for deeper integration into the country’s rapidly evolving digital ecosystem.

With these licences, Hayo can now develop and distribute digital content and software-based services for Kenyan users and businesses, including enterprises, government bodies, and public service providers.

Kenya’s Digital Economy: A Lucrative Opportunity

Kenya continues to strengthen its position as a regional technology leader, often dubbed The Silicon Savannah. The digital economy is central to this momentum. According to data from GSMA, Kenya’s digital economy is projected to contribute USD 5.11 billion to the country’s GDP by 2028, create up to 300,000 jobs, and increase tax revenues by USD 1.16 billion.

This expected growth is underpinned by policies like Vision 2030, which prioritises Information and Communications Technology (ICT) as a critical pillar in transforming Kenya into a middle-income economy. Public First estimates that every dollar invested in digital technology in Kenya could return over five times in broader economic value by 2030.

By acquiring these licences, Hayo now joins a league of companies shaping this transformation, with the legal and regulatory greenlight to operate more extensively in the country.

Hayo’s Expansion Strategy in Kenya and Beyond

“Hayo has been keen to expand its presence in Kenya to meet growing customer demands,” said Feraz Ahmed, CEO at Hayo. “These licences mark a key milestone for us, enabling delivery of a wider range of digital services to support the growth of the local digital economy.”

The company has grown rapidly in recent years, establishing offices in Kenya, South Africa, Niger, Cameroon, Sri Lanka, and the United States. Its entry into Kenya aligns with broader moves by global tech players like Microsoft and Google, which have made significant investments in the country’s tech infrastructure and talent.

Ahmed added, “We’re looking forward to working together with Hayo’s customers and partners to make the most of the growing opportunities in Kenya, boost the digital economy, and have a positive impact on local people’s lives.”

What the Licences Enable

  • Content Service Provider (CSP) licence: Allows Hayo to create, distribute, and manage digital content for diverse audiences, including multimedia applications, platforms, and services that enhance digital engagement and user experience.
  • Applications Service Provider (ASP) licence: Permits Hayo to offer software-driven solutions, including communication apps, APIs, IoT platforms, and enterprise productivity tools that support innovation and connectivity.

With these licences, Hayo can now directly serve Kenya’s digital transformation agenda, offering tailored services across sectors like e-government, mobile commerce, financial services, retail, and media.

Strategic Partnerships and Future Roadmap

The licensing follows Hayo’s recently announced partnership with Talk360, aimed at providing international calling services for users across the African diaspora. With over 30 years of experience across the continent and 500+ global service provider relationships, Hayo aims to help local businesses tap into global-grade technology while maintaining local relevance and affordability.

The company offers a broad range of services including:

  • Voice and SMS services
  • Communications Platform-as-a-Service (CPaaS)
  • Security and Identity management
  • Internet of Things (IoT) integrations

Through this service stack, Hayo plans to help connect underserved regions, optimise connectivity, and promote secure digital transformation for Kenyan enterprises.
