Google Rolls Out AI-Powered Video Generation for Gemini Advanced and Whisk Users

Google has officially launched AI video generation capabilities for its Gemini Advanced and Google One AI Premium subscribers, ushering in a new era of creative tools with the integration of its latest model, Veo 2. This update marks a significant leap forward in user-accessible generative video technology, with features that transform simple prompts into dynamic visual content

Gemini Now Supports Video Creation with Veo 2

At the center of this launch is Veo 2, Google’s state-of-the-art generative video model. Designed to understand real-world physics, human motion, and diverse artistic styles, Veo 2 allows users to create eight-second videos in 720p resolution. The output comes as a landscape-format MP4 file, optimized for sharing across social platforms like TikTok and YouTube Shorts.

Gemini Advanced subscribers can now select Veo 2 directly from the model dropdown on the web or mobile versions of the Gemini app. Once selected, users simply describe the scene or concept they wish to visualize — whether it’s a short narrative, fantastical concept, or stylized animation — and Veo 2 handles the rest.

Key features include:

  • Eight-second video clips
  • 720p resolution
  • 16:9 MP4 format
  • Prompt-based creation
  • Monthly generation limits with user notifications

With a wide range of supported languages and an intuitive user interface, Gemini eliminates the need for video editing software or prior production experience, democratizing video creation for casual users and professionals alike.

Whisk Animate: Bringing Still Images to Life

In parallel, Google has expanded its experimental Whisk platform — introduced last December — to now include Whisk Animate. This feature leverages Veo 2 to transform generated images into animated eight-second clips. Unlike Gemini, Whisk allows for hybrid prompting using both text and images, offering another layer of creativity.

Whisk Animate is now available to Google One AI Premium subscribers, offering an accessible way to animate static imagery and enhance visual storytelling. The feature is accessible at labs.google/whisk.

Built-In Safety and Transparency

Google emphasizes that safety and transparency are critical to its approach. All videos generated using Veo 2 include SynthID, a digital watermark embedded in every frame to indicate AI origin. The company has also invested in extensive red-teaming to mitigate harmful or policy-violating outputs.

Users are encouraged to provide feedback through the thumbs-up/down system to help improve the model and fine-tune results. Google states it will continue refining its tools based on user input.

Available Now

Both video generation in Gemini and animation in Whisk are rolling out globally starting April 15, 2025. Gemini Advanced users can begin generating videos immediately via gemini.google.com, while Whisk Animate is accessible for subscribers at labs.google/whisk.

These features reflect a broader push by Google to integrate multimodal generative AI into everyday applications, bridging creativity with accessibility in the AI era.
