Naivas Supermarket has publicly refuted recent claims circulating on social media and other informal platforms alleging that it has been selling expired products and that some of its branches have been closed by authorities. In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the retailer categorically denied the accusations, terming them as false, misleading, and harmful.
The supermarket, which operates dozens of branches across Kenya, clarified that no expired items have been found on its shelves. The company says it adheres to strict internal quality control and stock management systems to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
“We maintain stringent internal quality control and stock management systems across all our branches to ensure product safety and compliance with health regulations,” the statement read.
Naivas also addressed the rumor about alleged branch closures, stating that all its outlets remain fully operational. According to the company, no regulatory or health authority has ordered the closure of any Naivas branch. The chain confirmed its ongoing compliance with the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), the Ministry of Health, and other regulatory bodies.
The supermarket further noted that it has a firm anti-bribery and anti-corruption policy and warned that it will not give in to extortion or intimidation attempts.
“Naivas is taking legal advice regarding a formal action against the individuals or organisations that are spreading misinformation regarding Naivas,” the statement added.
The supermarket urged the public to disregard the false narratives and reiterated its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and customer service.
