Samsung is extending its One UI platform to smart home appliances, promising a consistent software experience across phones, TVs and now refrigerators, washers, air conditioners and more. Beginning September, eligible 2024-launched Wi-Fi appliances will start receiving software upgrades, and Samsung is committing to support these products with updates for up to seven years after launch.
A single look and feel across Samsung devices
Samsung says One UI on appliances will mirror the familiar design language users know from Galaxy devices. That means consistent layouts, fonts and navigation, plus shared apps and services across screens.
Common UI and glanceable info
Interfaces like Now Brief will bring at-a-glance cards to appliance displays. Expect tiles for weather, family schedules, recommended recipes and helpful home insights, for example time remaining on the washer.
Apps and services across screens
Core Samsung services are expanding to more appliance screens. Bixby, Gallery and Samsung TV Plus will be available where supported, so you can pull up photos or live channels on a refrigerator display, then continue on a phone or TV without friction. This builds on Samsung’s wider push to keep software features moving across categories, which we’ve seen with One UI 7 on Galaxy phones.
Connectivity powered by SmartThings
Under the hood, SmartThings ties devices together for multi-device control and automation. Samsung’s home services like Family Care, Pet Care and Home Care will be easier to surface from appliance screens. Seven-year software support for smart appliances
All Wi-Fi enabled Samsung appliances will be eligible for updates for up to seven years after launch. The policy takes effect with 2024 models, which begin receiving their first wave of One UI-based updates in September. Long-term support has been a strong theme across Samsung’s portfolio this year, and the move brings the durability mindset we have seen on phones to the home category as well.
What’s coming to 2024 appliances in September
Samsung lists four focus areas for the first updates: security, intelligence, services and a refined interface.
Upgraded security with Knox Matrix
Knox Matrix is coming to 2024 Wi-Fi appliances such as refrigerators, washers and dryers, air conditioners, Eco Heating Systems and slide-in induction ranges. Through Trust Chain, connected products can monitor each other’s security status. Screen-equipped models like Family Hub refrigerators and Bespoke AI washers will gain encrypted Credential Sync and Passkey support, plus a Knox Security dashboard similar to the one on 2025 models for real-time status checks. If you have been following Samsung’s device-wide security push, we have previously covered Knox Matrix and its cross-device protections on Galaxy hardware.
Smarter, more personal features
Family Hub and 9-inch refrigerator screens will get an upgraded AI Vision Inside that recognizes more fresh items and now frequently used packaged foods. Bixby adds Voice ID for personalized responses on shared devices, and you can trigger Bixby by double tapping the screen.
Service expansion where you live
Samsung TV Plus on Family Hub refrigerators is expanding to Canada, Brazil and India. Meanwhile, 7-inch washer screens in India will add eight local languages, including Bengali, Punjabi and Gujarati. These follow the same pattern of region-aware software changes we have seen on Samsung TVs and phones this year.
A refreshed One UI on appliance screens
A redesigned One UI, first seen on 2025 appliances, is headed to 2024 models. Expect cleaner visuals, clearer menus and region-specific settings so common tasks are faster to find.
Why this matters
For households already living with multiple Samsung products, this change reduces cognitive load. The refrigerator, the washer and the phone will speak the same visual language, share familiar apps and surface relevant cards. The seven-year update pledge also matters for sustainability and trust. Appliances stay useful longer, features continue to improve and security protections keep pace.
