The financial giant is on the hunt for the next big thing in fintech, health tech, and more, with a new challenge for startups in Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Financial services giant Britam is throwing its weight behind East Africa’s burgeoning tech ecosystem with the launch of the Britam BetaLab Regional Startup Challenge 2025. The new initiative is a call to arms for growth-stage startups in Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda, offering a powerful launchpad for companies looking to scale and partner with a major regional player.
This isn’t another incubator for napkin-stage ideas. Britam is targeting established innovators—companies that are at Series B or beyond, with existing products and revenue streams. The goal, according to the company, is to “identify, support, and collaborate with the most promising growth-stage startups” to “redefine the future of finance, insurance, health, and beyond.”
“The next leap in East Africa’s digital transformation will be built on collaboration.”
The challenge is focused on a wide range of sectors, including fintech, health tech, insurtech, consumer tech, agritech, and retail and supply chain. Britam is particularly interested in startups that can strengthen the insurance and finance value chain, whether it’s through innovations in distribution, payments, data and AI, or underwriting.
So what’s on offer for the startups that make the cut? Successful applicants will get a spot in a “powerful ecosystem designed to accelerate growth.” This includes an intensive Venture Development Bootcamp, a 60-day accelerator program with hands-on mentorship from Britam’s business units, and an Investor Demo Day to pitch to a curated network of regional and international investors. Oh, and they’ll also get a bundle of technology credits to fuel their technical development.
This is a significant opportunity for startups in the region to gain a powerful strategic partner and access to a massive market. Britam is a major player in the East African financial services sector, and a partnership with them could be a game-changer for a growing company.
If you’re a growth-stage startup in Rwanda, Tanzania, or Uganda with a solution that could shake up the world of finance or insurance, this is your chance to get in on the ground floor.
