Google is bringing its powerful Gemini AI to smart televisions, a move set to redefine how people interact with their screens. The update means users can now talk to their TVs, request recommendations, and even get help with everyday life tasks—all without needing an extra device.
Personalized and Smarter TV Experiences
According to Google, the integration is designed to make TV watching more intuitive and personalized. By using conversational language, viewers can activate Gemini with the familiar “Hey, Google” command. From there, the AI can suggest shows based on viewing habits and provide season recaps. Gemini is smart enough to answer even vague questions such as, “What’s the new hospital drama everyone’s talking about?”
Couples can also benefit by asking Gemini to recommend movies tailored to two different tastes—for instance, balancing one partner’s love for dramas with the other’s preference for comedies.
Beyond Entertainment
Gemini on smart TVs isn’t limited to content discovery. The AI can also lend a hand with real-world tasks. Users can ask for recipes, homework help, or even request schedule reminders. For households with connected devices, Gemini can also assist in managing smart home controls directly from the TV.
This integration brings Google’s AI magic directly into the living room, transforming televisions from passive displays into interactive assistants.
Industry Perspective
Tech experts see this as part of a larger trend of AI moving beyond smartphones and computers into everyday household devices. “Google is clearly betting on AI becoming central to how people interact with technology in all spaces,” said analyst Priya Nair. “By bringing Gemini to smart TVs, they are redefining what it means to watch television.”
The rollout begins with select TCL and Hisense models which are available even in Kenya, as well as Walmart streaming devices with wider availability expected by early 2026.
Part of Google’s Larger AI Push and Transition from Search
The launch builds on Google’s ongoing shift from being known as a search giant to an AI-first company as we noted in a recent post. In recent months, Gemini has been added to Chrome and YouTube tools, cementing Google’s push to make AI a central part of daily life.
Despite debates around the risks of AI, Wall Street has rewarded the company’s direction, with Google recently joining the $3 trillion market valuation club.
The Future of Watching TV
With Gemini built into smart TVs, watching television is no longer a one-way experience. Instead, viewers can expect interactive, tailored, and intelligent engagement which serves as a preview at a future where asking your TV a question feels just as natural as turning it on.
