OPPO Kenya has confirmed the launch of its latest mid-range smartphones, the Reno 13 F 4G and Reno 13 F 5G, scheduled for February 28, 2025. Unlike previous Reno launches, which typically introduced the higher-end Reno 13 Pro and Reno 13 models first, OPPO is now leading with the more affordable F series in Kenya. This shift raises questions about OPPO’s market strategy and its positioning against increasing competition in the budget and mid-range segment.

Both devices feature a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 92.2% screen-to-body ratio, ensuring an immersive viewing experience. However, key differences lie in processing power and connectivity.

Market Positioning & Battery Innovation
OPPO appears to be making a strategic push into the budget smartphone segment, a category heavily dominated by Xiaomi’s Redmi lineup, Samsung’s A-series, and Transsion’s TECNO and Infinix brands. With pricing details yet to be revealed, OPPO’s success in this space will depend on whether it offers competitive pricing to challenge these established players.
A standout feature in this launch is the massive battery capacity in both devices – the largest yet in a Reno smartphone. Given the slim design of the Reno 13 F series, it’s likely that OPPO is utilizing silicon-carbide battery technology, a breakthrough recently seen in the Infinix HOT 50 Pro+, allowing for higher power efficiency without increasing bulk. If this is the case, OPPO could be signaling a new approach to battery innovation in the mid-range segment.
A Shift in OPPO’s Strategy?
Typically, OPPO introduces its Pro variants before rolling out more affordable models. This time, however, the absence of the Reno 13 Pro and Reno 13 in Kenya raises speculation.
Is this a response to weaker sales of premium OPPO models in Kenya? The brand has faced intensifying competition from Xiaomi and Samsung, which offer strong alternatives in both the mid-range and flagship segments. Skipping the high-end models – at least for now – suggests that OPPO may be realigning its priorities to focus on devices that have a better chance of driving volume sales.
OPPO’s Market Challenges
While OPPO has built a reputation for stylish designs and strong cameras, its market share in Kenya has been under pressure. Xiaomi’s aggressive pricing strategy and Samsung’s dominance in the mid-range segment have made it difficult for OPPO to carve out a distinct space.

Transsion’s TECNO and Infinix brands also continue to offer affordable devices with competitive specs, making it essential for OPPO to strike the right balance between pricing and features. By leading with the F series, OPPO could be testing the waters before deciding whether to introduce the higher-end Reno 13 models later. However, we don’t think we’ll see the higher-end models this time round.
Launch Details
The OPPO Reno 13 F 4G and Reno 13 F 5G will officially launch in Kenya on February 28, 2025, at 7:30 PM. The event will be streamed live on OPPO Kenya’s YouTube, Facebook, and TikTok pages, as well as on TV47 and KTN.
