After being on the forefront of global tech giant Microsoft operations in Kenya as the Country Manager for 3 and a half years, Phyllis Migwi has announced that she is stepping down from the role in February. This is since taking over the position in 2022 replacing Kendi Ntiwga.
On a post Phyllis shared on her LinkedIn page, she prepares transition into her next role and says the time has comes for new leadership and passing the baton to someone who can continue building upon the firm foundation she and others have laid.
Migwi in her post iterates that, “The work we are doing in Kenya and the region is critical. From strengthening government relations to empowering local businesses and communities, the “why” behind our work has never been clearer. There is still so much potential to amplify this impact, and we need someone who is vision-led to continue that momentum.”
During her tenure, Migwi was instrumental in bringing the largest Global AI tour conference in Africa to Nairobi in March 2025. This event showcased Kenya as a primary hub for AI innovation and adoption, convening global developers and local business leaders.
One of her most notable success while at her position, was overseeing the announcement of a massive $1 billion digital investment package in partnership with G42 back in 2024. This is important as Microsoft is preparing to bring East Africa’s first Azure cloud region with a geothermal-powered data center, local AI development (Project Gecko), and an innovation lab to boost Kenya’s digital ecosystem
The Country Manager position is currently open, and Microsoft is recruiting for the role. This leadership shift is significant and the incoming manager must take the mantle and maintain Microsoft Kenya’s current upward trajectory.
