vivo V70 Coming to Kenya with ZEISS Super Telephoto Camera

Samsung Galaxy S26

There was a time when ZEISS-branded telephoto cameras on a phone meant spending flagship money. That era appears to be ending. vivo has officially previewed the V70, and at the centre of its pitch is something that should get Kenya’s mobile photography community paying attention: a 50MP ZEISS Super Telephoto Camera in what is essentially a mid-range device.

This is the latest chapter in vivo’s ongoing collaboration with ZEISS, and this time, the partnership is pushing further into territory that the V-Series hasn’t occupied before. The V70 introduces professional telephoto reach, engineered, vivo says, to extend creative range while preserving clarity at distance. For a phone line that has traditionally leaned on selfie cameras and portrait modes, that’s a meaningful shift in ambition.

Built for the Stage

The most interesting feature vivo is teasing is AI Stage Mode, a dedicated shooting mode specifically optimised for concerts and live performances. It works across a 1x to 10x to 20x range, and vivo says it has been tuned to handle complex stage lighting, the exact kind of harsh, shifting, mixed-colour conditions that turn most phone cameras into a mess of blur and noise.

This is a surprisingly specific bet. Think about it: if you’ve ever been at Koroga Festival, Blankets & Wine, or even a packed church worship session and tried to zoom into the performer from ten rows back, you know the result. A smeared, noisy, unusable shot. AI Stage Mode is promising to solve exactly that problem, delivering what vivo calls “professional composure” at distance, under difficult lighting.

Whether it actually delivers remains to be seen. But the ambition is clear, and no other mid-range phone in Kenya is making this specific pitch right now.

4K Video

The V70 brings 4K video recording, at a whopping 60fps. That’s a notable upgrade for content creators who’ve been limited to 30fps on previous V-Series models. vivo is framing this as bringing “professional cinematic realism” to the line, with fluid motion capture for everything from live performances to high-speed action.

Alongside the video upgrade, the phone includes intelligent imaging enhancements that work in the background — designed to maintain clarity and tonal balance while preserving the atmosphere of whatever scene you’re shooting.

A More Premium Build

Beyond cameras, the V70 signals a design evolution for the V-Series. The device is built around an Aerospace-Grade Aluminium Alloy Frame, which is a step up from the plastic constructions typical of this price tier. vivo describes the result as enhanced structural integrity with a premium metallic finish.

The front features a flat display with softly rounded corners, aiming for what vivo calls a balance between modern sophistication and ergonomic comfort. There will also be a curated selection of colour options at launch, though vivo hasn’t revealed them for the Kenyan market yet.

What We Don’t Know Yet

This is a preview, not a full launch. What’s clear is the direction: the V70 is positioning itself as the phone that brings flagship-grade ZEISS telephoto imaging and premium build quality to a segment that hasn’t had access to either.

Full details will be revealed at the official Kenya launch. We’ll have the complete breakdown then.
