If you’re Kenyan, you’ve probably not heard of a smartphone brand called Gionee. Gionee is a company founded in 2002. And from their Company profile, they started producing mobile phones in 2005.
I heard of Gionee from readers/friends in Nigeria. It was after one of those comparison posts. It must have been the Wiko vs Cubot post and some few people asked me to compare each of the two – Slide 2 and Note S – to a certain Gionee phone. I can’t remember which Gionee Phone exactly. But you can now get Gionee phones (two currently) in Kenya from Kilimall.
Gionee makes 6 Series of Phones. They have the Gionee Elite, Marathon, Fashion, GPad, CTRL, and Pioneer series. Currently in Kenya you can get one from the Fashion series and one from the the Pioneer series. They are:
- Gionee Pioneer 5W and
- Gionee Fashion 103 PRO
The Pioneer 5W has a 5 inch 720p, 1GB RAM, 5MP back camera, 2MP front camera, and a 2000mAh battery. It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop.
The Fashion 103 has a bigger 2400mAh battery, 13MP camera, 3GB RAM, and a 5 inch 720p display. It runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
The P5W costs Ksh. 8,000 while the F103 PRO costs Ksh. 18,600.
If you have a Gionee phone please tell me how you find them. Are they good? The camera? The battery life?
It is nice for more phone brands to open shop in Kenya. Even Xiaomi is in Kenya.
By the way do the names Xiaomi and Gionee rhyme? Kind of?
