Huawei Kenya will in the next few weeks – that is by end of October – launch new devices in the Kenyan market. In this line-up, we will be seeing the NEW Edition P30 Lite, and phones from the Nova Series.
P30 Lite NEW Edition:
The Huawei P30 Lite NEW Edition was announced back in July and comes with updated cameras, and a new color option. The big change between the original P30 Lite, and the NEW Edition one is in cameras.
Instead of the Triple 24MP+8MP+2MP on the original edition, the new P30 Lite features a 48MP+8MP+2MP setup at the back. On the front, instead of the signature 32MP camera that was on all P30 Series devices, the NEW Edition features a 24MP sensor.
In Kenya, there was two variants of the original P30 Lite. There was a 4GB RAM option whose recommended retail price was KES. 26,999 and there was a 6GB RAM option (which I reviewed) whose retail price was KES. 29,999.
We can therefore expect the NEW Edition P30 Lite to range between KES. 25,000 and KES. 30,000. Which will be a sweet spot for the specs, and for the competition.
Nova Series:
The Nova series is Huawei’s budget to midrange offering. It isn’t yet clear which Nova Series phones Huawei Kenya will be bringing to the market. It is also confusing to point one device out in particular because many times you find a Nova Series phone being re-branded as a Y-series device or even as a Lite Version of a flagship. For example, the Nova 4e was later on launched as the original P30 Lite.
Hopefully, Huawei Kenya will be bringing in the Nova 5 Series. They’re all amazing devices. How they price these device(s) is what I am waiting to see.
Google Apps and Services:
We’ve seen the new flagship MATE 30 Series launch without Google Apps. This is following the messy trade wars between America and China leading to US ban on Huawei trading with American companies.
Since the P30 Lite NEW Edition was launched earlier on, it will still have Google Apps. Unless that changes somewhat. With the Nova Series, it remains unclear which phone Huawei will be bringing in, and whether the device will have Google Apps. All we can do is wait.
