HMD Global has today made it official that the Nokia 6.2 is available countrywide starting from KES. 26,500. From the official release, it seems only the Ceramic Black model will be available in this region.
Earlier on when the company announced they would be bringing the Nokia 7.2 and Nokia 6.2 to Kenya, opening pre-orders, they said the price of the Nokia 6.2 would be KES. 24,000. It seems the pricing has been updated.
For that price point you’re getting a 6.3 inch display with HDR10 Support. It is an IPS LCD panel that’s protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. I believe it is the only display for its price point supporting HDR10 – which is really good for everyone who loves brilliant colors for entertainment (gaming and movies).
There’s also a triple camera system at the back including a 16MP f/1.8 wide lens, an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide lens, and a 5MP depth sensor. The selfie camera is an 8MP f/2.0 lens.
Senior Business Manager for HMD Global said, “With the Nokia 6.2 we wanted to reimagine the features we can offer on our popular 6 series smartphones. As such, Nokia 6.2 comes with two exciting firsts: a breath-taking and immersive PureDisplay screen and a powerful AI-powered triple camera. With Nokia 6.2 we’re making sure you get a premium device, that doesn’t compromise on looks or performance. With its impressive one billion color shades, the PureDisplay screen on the Nokia 6.2 lets fans enjoy their favorite movies or shows on the go like never before. Coming with a feature-packed triple camera, fans can set their creative side loose when they feel like it.”
HMD hasn’t indicated which model they’ll be having in Kenya in terms of RAM and Storage. I am guessing it is the 4GB RAM, 64GB storage model. But given the Nokia 7.2 is KES. 34,000 with 4GB RAM, perhaps the model for the Nokia 6.2 in Kenya will be the 3GB RAM, 32GB storage. The company hasn’t replied on this. UPDATE: The Model you’ll be getting for this price point comes with 4GB RAM, and 64GB storage.
The device is powered by a Snapdragon 636 processor, and a 3500mAh battery with USB type-C. There’s NFC and Bluetooth 5.0.
It will be interesting to see how the 3500mAh battery powers the demanding, but amazing HDR10 display. And to know whether one can pull a whole day on the device without needing to recharge.
At its price point, the Nokia 6.2 competes directly with Huawei P30 Lite, Huawei Y9 Prime 2019, Xiaomi’s Redmi NOTE 8, and TECNO Phantom 9. All of these, except the P30 Lite have larger batteries, and more RAM and Storage.
