TECNO Phantom 9 is finally available across Kenya for KES. 24,999

TECNO Mobile Kenya, in a press release, has announced the availability of the Phantom 9 across the country. You should be able to pick up the device from all TECNO retail shops, Safaricom outlets, and JUMIA at a recommended retail price of KES. 24,999. It is unclear whether or not pricing will vary from different outlets based on the press release. I’m stating this because devices tend to be cost more in Safaricom shops, and have single SIM slots.

For its specs, this is great pricing. I was scared they would make a mistake and overprice the device like we’ve seen them do with previous phones. But at KES. 24,999, you’re getting incredible specs including the under-display scanner, 6GB RAM, and 128GB storage. However, I’ll only be able to safely recommend the device once I interact with it. I am especially looking forward to testing the triple camera setup, the fingerprint scanner, and to see the quality of the AMOLED Panel they’re using.

TECNO says in the release that you can also pick the new phone by trading in your current phone. The other method is through Lipa Later’s program.

The Phantom 9 was expected in the country by mid July. The company had issues with bringing in the devices it seems, as the phone has been on sale in other countries for a while now.

I hope TECNO did a good job with this phone as it is their 2019 flagship. It has been close to two years since the last Phantom device. With the pricing, you can see TECNO is pitting the phone against the similarly priced Huawei Y9 PRIME 2019 which is just an amazing device.

I will be comparing the two phones in the coming days, once I get a review sample from TECNO. So if you’re looking to pick up the Phantom 9, wait for a full review.
