Huawei Nova 5T officially unveiled. To cost you KES. 42,000

Huawei has officially unveiled the Nova 5T for the Kenyan market. This is an upper midrange phone with the mix of a flagship processor, and sort of mid level specifications.

When we published news that the device would be launching, we estimated the price to cost between 30 and 37k. We were off on this one, as Huawei Kenya has set a recommended retail price of KES. 41,999.

For that you’re getting the very able and very powerful Kirin 980 chipset. If you remember when it launched, it was the world’s first 7nm process mobile phone AI SoC chipset. Huawei also bragged it was the the world’s first cortex-A76 architecture chipset, the world’s first dual NPU design, and the world’s first chipset to support LTE Cat.21.

It has been used to power the Mate 20 series, and the P30 Pro. I guess that’s the reason the Nova 5T is quite costly.

You’re also getting 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. One thing that’s a let down though is that there’s no SD card to expand the storage, what you get is what you get.

Something else that may hold you is the battery size. It is 3750mAh. The great thing though is that you can fast-charge the device using the USB type-C port. In the box you’ll find the included 22.5W charger. So you should ideally be able to fill up your phone pretty fast.

The camera setup is pretty good. At the back you get a quad setup comprising a 48MP Sony sensor that’s the main camera, a 16MP ultrawide lens, a 2MP depth sensor, and an extra 2MP macro lens for macro shots. At the front you get a 32MP selfie camera that’s inside the display’s punch hole.

The phone launches with Android 9, but Huawei is promising the Android 10 update is coming. You’ll be able to get it from January 31st.
