Though I personally don’t see 5G as a big thing right now, many people do. And many companies want to have 5G devices all over. This year, many phones will support 5G, including phones in the budget segment. And no company wants to be left behind. Samsung is said to be working on 5G variants of the very popular Galaxy A51, and Galaxy A71.
The Galaxy A71’s 5G variant is reportedly ready and will be model number SM-A716B. It will not, however, be available in the US and China markets. Rather, it will be sold in European markets, Australia, and New Zealand (according to GSMArena).
In Kenya, 5G is yet to be available. But Safaricom is said to be working with Huawei to roll out the network by end of 2020. Samsung already assured us that the new S20 series – which will launch in Kenya in March – will receive an OTA update whenever 5G becomes available, to enable them access the new generation network.
Whenever 5G becomes available in Kenya, we can then expect the first budget devices supporting the network to be Samsung devices. The Galaxy A51 has been a best seller in Kenya in the past few weeks. A 5G variant would do so well.
