Huawei is continuing its push with smartphones despite the Google Ban. The latest upcoming device for the Kenyan market will be the Huawei Y6p – which also doesn’t support Google Apps, instead running Huawei’s Mobile Services. The device should launch in Kenya soon, with pre-orders opening on June 15th.
The new Y6p has a 6.3-inch 720p display with a 20:9 aspect ratio. It features a triple camera setup including a 13MP main sensor, a 5MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP depth sensor. The front camera is an 8MP sensor.
The Y6p feels like a replacement for the earlier launched Y6s that came with Google Apps. However, there’s now more cameras, a bigger display, a bigger battery, and more storage and RAM. The bigger 5000mAh battery is a welcome upgrade. Though now you can use it to charge other devices because it supports reverse charging.
The device comes with a Helio P22 processor, 3 or 4GB RAM, 32 or 64GB storage, Bluetooth 5.0, and NFC support on some models. The only bad thing is that there still no USB Type-C here.
Customer who preorder will get gifts, but more information on this will be shared once the pre-orders open. We expect a price range of between KES. 17,000 and KES. 20,000.
