Nokia 8.3 with 5G launching in Kenya for KES. 69,000

Among the very first devices to officially support 5G in Kenya will be the Nokia 8.3 that is going on sale in Kenya in a couple of weeks. HMD Global has just announced it is bringing in their ‘Global 5G’ phone to the market with a set recommended retail price of KES. 69,000.

For that price you get a 5G-ready phone which can be used in any market where 5G is already rolled out. But you’re also in line to be among the first people to take advantage of 5G whenever that becomes available locally. You also get Nokia’s Power Earbuds Lite bundled free of charge.

5G is not yet available in Kenya. No provider has officially given any timelines on when the network could go live here. However, HMD Global argues that their device is future-ready. So whenever 5G rolls out, you won’t need to upgrade your device.

The device remains part of Google’s Android ONE program. Meaning it runs stock Android. You will be able to get 3 years of promised security updates. And 2 years of System Updates to the next version of Android. So even when Android 13 launches, you should be able to still be running the latest version of Android, so your device won’t feel out of place.

The variant HMD Global are bringing in has 8GB RAM, 128GB storage. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor. The display is a 6.81 inch IPS LCD panel. There’s a 4500mAh battery which supports 18W fast charging over USB type-C.

The device will be available through all major retail shops in the next two weeks according to HMD Global. What are your thoughts? Ready for 5G?
