These are the Top 10 Podcasts in Kenya on Spotify

Spotify has recently released data on the top 10 podcasts Kenyans are tuning to on the app. In the list, only 3 Kenyan-produced shows appear, with the rest being shows from other countries.

The top three local podcasts in the country are:

  1. ‘The Mics are open’
  2. ‘Legally Clueless’ and
  3. ‘The Sandwich Podcast’

Spotify says that though the format has been around for some time now, in the last two years consumption has increased, and people are getting more creative. What started off as a genre for heavily educational content, has now branched into many dynamic genres. According to the company, there are over 2.9 Million titles available to Spotify listeners in Kenya for free.

In a press release from Spotify, Adelle Onyango said, “2 years after founding Legally Clueless, it’s very clear to me that we are in the middle of a great shift in the media space. A shift that I believe is very important for Africans because we can finally have full agency over our voices, stories and issues that affect our communities in a manner that is unbiased or censored.”

Spotify says Kenyans are clearly loving homegrown shows, and this can also be seen with the upcoming shows on the platform including:

  1. The Mettā
  2. Surviving Nairobi, and
  3. The Spread
