OPPO is stepping up to challenge Samsung’s dominance in the foldable smartphone market. On 30th May 2023, the company will launch its first-ever flip phone, the OPPO Find N2 Flip, in Kenya. This release comes as a direct competitor to Samsung’s Z Flip devices and marks a significant milestone in OPPO’s journey in the realm of foldable smartphones.
This is not OPPO’s first foldable phone though. They’ve had the Find N (we talked about it on this TikTok video) and the Find N2 foldable phones. These models, similar in design to Samsung’s Z Fold devices, feature a book-like folding mechanism. However, the Find N2 Flip offers a different approach, adopting the more compact clamshell design akin to the Samsung Z Flip devices. This new offering allows OPPO to compete on all fronts in the foldable smartphone market, catering to a broader range of consumer preferences.
The OPPO Find N2 Flip features a sizeable 3.26-inch cover display, significantly larger than the Z Flip 4’s 1.9-inch secondary display. This feature facilitates access to more information without the need to unfold the phone, proving useful for functions ranging from using the camera viewfinder to quickly checking the weather.
Unfolded, the Find N2 Flip reveals a 6.8-inch main FHD+ display with a resolution of 1080×2520 pixels, offering a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to 1600 nits of brightness.
OPPO boasts that its folding mechanism is rated to survive 400,000 folding cycles, doubling the estimated lifespan of the Z Flip 4. Like Samsung, OPPO utilises a later of ultra-thin glass in the foldable screen’s construction, promising a robust device that can withstand the rigours of daily use.
Under the hood, the Find N2 Flip is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ chipset, coupled with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage – we’ve seen this combination on TECNO’s First Foldable phone too. It operates on Android 13 with OPPO’s ColorOS 13 skin on top. OPPO assures users of four years of Android updates and five years of security updates, aligning with the lengthy support periods offered by Samsung.
In terms of photography, the Find N2 Flip features a dual rear camera setup comprising a 50MP main sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and an 8MP ultra-wide angle lens with an f/2.2 aperture. The device also sports a 32MP selfie camera with an f/2.4 aperture, housed within a small hole-punch notch. Users can also utilize the main camera for high-resolution selfies using the cover display while the handset is folded.
The Find N2 Flip comes equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for secure access. It is powered by a 4,300 mAh battery, significantly larger than the Z Flip 4’s 3,700mAh battery, providing ample power for daily use. The device supports 44W SuperVOOC flash charge, enabling a full charge in under an hour,
The OPPO Find N2 Flip had its global launch event in February 2023, marking its debut outside of China, where it was initially released in December 2022. Details on pricing and exact RAM and Storage variants will be announced during the launch.
