TECNO Phantom V Fold now available starting at just KES 130,000

TECNO's affordable alternative to the Samsung FOLD is now available in Kenya. The Phantom V Fold starts at KES 130,000 VAT not included.

TECNO’s sub-brand, PHANTOM, has announced the availability of the Phantom V Fold, its latest flagship smartphone, in Kenya. This marks the brand’s entrance into the foldable device market – long dominated by Samsung. (NOTE: prices are exclusive of VAT meaning you will pay more)

This launch comes three months after the release of the Phantom X2 Pro, featuring the world’s first retractable portrait lens. TECNO says the PHANTOM V Fold continues to revolutionise the premium smartphone experience through its outstanding technologies and exceptional performance.

Two Flagship Screens for a Unique Visual Experience

The PHANTOM V Fold features dual LTPO screens that have an adaptive 10-120Hz high refresh rate, providing smooth motions and fluid transitions when folded and unfolded. The front screen is 6.42 inches, with a micro-curved design and a 21:9 aspect ratio, allowing for optimal single-handed operation. Meanwhile the folding 7.85-inch display on the inner side features an 8:7 aspect ratio, with what TECNO calls a virtually invisible crease.

Infinix NOTE 40 Series Kenya

TECNO says the invisible crease is thanks to their self-developed, aerospace-grade drop-shaped hinge. The company explains that the hinge’s innovative reverse snap structure enhances the phone’s structural stability while using aerospace-grade materials, creating strength with a lightweight.

Additionally, the fixed-axis rotation and slide technology hinge design ensures the main inner screen fits tightly together, ultimately delivering an almost unnoticeable crease. The screen crease measures just 0.11mm when new, and the device is capable of 200,000 folds.

Five Lenses for Unprecedented Image-Making

PHANTOM V Fold’s ultra-clear 5-lens photography system creates an unprecedented image-making experience with lenses to meet a wide range of uses. The phone has three rear lenses and two front lenses, enabling users to explore the world through new lenses.

The 50MP Super Night main camera provides a super light-sensitive custom 1/1.3-inch sensor, large f/1.85 aperture, and 7P composition, making it ideal for nighttime image-making. AI-powered Super Night Portrait, Super Night Mode, and Super Night 4K Video reduce noise and capture crisp lines for an exquisite night-time experience.

HiOS13 Fold for a Super-Optimised Experience

For the FOLD series, TECNO has developed HiOS 13 Fold, a highly optimised and customised operating system based on Google’s Android 13. TECNO says this skin is specially designed for foldable devices. The system provides large-screen capabilities such as split screens, picture-in-pictures, parallel windows, and drag and drop across screens, creating a user-friendly experience.

TECNO says that all the 1,000 apps with the highest download frequency globally have already been customised to support split-screen and multi-window modes on the FOLD. Over 2,000 apps have been adapted for HiOS13 Fold.

MediaTek Dimensity 9000+

PHANTOM V Fold is the world’s first left-right foldable smartphone to be powered by MediaTek’s flagship Dimensity 9000+ processor. The processor delivers exceptional performance that allows efficient multi-tasking and seamless switching between screens. The phone also features 12GB LPDDR5X RAM, as well as 256/512GB UFS 3.1 flash storage.

The powerful 5000mAh battery supports rapid 45W charging, capable of boosting the phone to 40% in just 15 minutes and fully charging in 55 minutes.

Pricing and Availability

The PHANTOM V Fold will retail at KES 129,999 for the 256GB + 12GB RAM variant and KES 143,999 for the 512GB + 12GB RAM variant. NOTE: prices are exclusive of VAT meaning you will pay more. The device will be available at select TECNO stores countrywide, Safaricom shops, and the PHANTOM website.
