Kenya Government and Huawei Partner on Cloud Computing Security Training

The rapid adoption of cloud computing technology by governments, businesses, and organizations worldwide has become a necessity rather than an option. During the official closing ceremony of the training program, Internal Security and National Administration Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo emphasized the critical role of cloud technology in modern governance. Cyberattacks are becoming more sophisticated, and the need for robust cloud security measures has never been more critical.”

The Cloud Computing Security training, which benefited over 200 government officers, is part of a long-term collaboration between the Kenyan government and Huawei. This partnership aims to improve Kenya’s cloud computing security by equipping government officers with the knowledge and skills necessary to implement international cybersecurity standards effectively.

Mr. Steven Zhang, Huawei Kenya’s Deputy CEO for Public Affairs, highlighted that the training is an extension of previous initiatives focused on cybersecurity governance. “The collaboration builds on previous training sessions and is part of our commitment to helping Kenya enhance its cybersecurity infrastructure. We want to ensure that government officers are well-prepared to handle the complexities of cloud technology and cyber threats,” said Mr. Zhang.

Role of the National Computer and Cybercrime Coordination Committee (NC4)

The National Computer and Cybercrime Coordination Committee (NC4), operating under the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, coordinated the training. The NC4, established under the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, is a multi-agency body responsible for overseeing all cybersecurity matters within the government. Its duties include the timely detection, prevention, response, investigation, and prosecution of cybercrimes.

The committee plays a vital role in ensuring that Kenya’s digital landscape remains secure and resilient against the increasing number of cyber threats. Dr. Omollo affirmed that NC4 is well-equipped to tackle any cyber risks that could potentially undermine the country’s efforts to improve efficiency and service delivery through digital means.

“The skills acquired through this training will be instrumental in driving the government’s digitalization and e-services agenda. They will also be critical in safeguarding the country’s digital landscape in line with the Computer and Cybercrime law,” Dr. Omollo stated.
