Safaricom PLC has unveiled its revamped 5G for Business service, promising small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) faster, more reliable, and affordable internet connectivity. This initiative, announced during the “Grow with Safaricom Business” event in Western Kenya, marks a significant step in enhancing digital transformation for businesses across the region.
Fivefold Speed Increase at Reduced Costs
The upgraded 5G service delivers speeds up to five times faster than previous plans, making it accessible to businesses of varying scales. The new pricing structure is tailored to meet the needs of SMEs:

For businesses signing up between November 29 and December 31, 2024, Safaricom is offering a 25% discount across all 5G plans.
This announcement comes just months after Safaricom upgraded its Home Fibre speeds for all customers across Kenya and introduced a high-performance 1Gbps package, underscoring its commitment to enhancing internet services nationwide

Speaking at the launch, Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa emphasized the transformative potential of the new service. “The new 5G for Business will ensure that SMEs can access enterprise-grade internet performance without stretching their budgets. This will empower them to enhance productivity, improve customer interactions, and scale operations efficiently in today’s increasingly connected marketplace.”
The “Grow with Safaricom Business” event, part of the ongoing Sambaza Furaha na Safaricom Caravan, seeks to educate SMEs on leveraging technology for business growth.
According to the Kenya Institute of Public Policy, Research, and Analysis, the country boasts over 7.4 million micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), employing approximately 14.9 million people and contributing 30% to Kenya’s GDP. Safaricom’s revamped 5G offering aims to support this critical economic segment by enabling real-time collaboration, seamless online transactions, and improved remote operations.
As a leader in telecommunications, Safaricom provides extensive coverage through 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G networks, serving over 45.9 million customers in Kenya.
