If you’ve been eyeing the new Vivo V50 series but your wallet has been giving you side-eyes, Vivo Kenya has just handed you a lifeline. The Vivo V50 Lite 5G is now up for pre-order in Kenya for Kshs 47,999, starting May 12 through May 18, and yes—it comes bearing gifts.
The V50 Lite 5G is clearly designed for those who want a slice of Vivo’s premium pie but without burning through their savings. Coming hot on the heels of the flagship Vivo V50 5G’s local debut (which goes for Kshs 69,999), this Lite version aims to strike the perfect balance between affordability and performance.
But let’s talk goodies first. Pre-ordering the V50 Lite 5G will earn you a Vivo backpack, 2-year warranty, 1-year screen replacement, and even a 5-year battery health guarantee. Not bad for a mid-ranger, huh?

Now for the specs—this isn’t just a watered-down version of the V50. Sure, there are differences, but the V50 Lite holds its own quite well. You get a 6.77-inch AMOLED display (1080p resolution) with 1800 nits peak brightness—plenty vibrant for outdoor use. While it skips HDR10+ and Vivo’s ultra-bright 4500-nit screen found on the V50, most users won’t even notice the absence.
Powering the phone is the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 (6nm) chip paired with 12GB RAM and a generous 256GB storage, plus 12GB extended RAM for those who like to juggle apps like a pro. The V50, in comparison, flexes a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 (4nm) muscle, but for everyday use, the Lite variant should glide along smoothly.

On the back, you’re getting a 50MP main sensor and an 8MP ultra-wide, plus a 32MP selfie shooter—all of which should do the job for your socials. However, if you’re a camera nerd, you’ll miss out on the Zeiss optics, OIS, and 4K video recording found on the V50’s 50MP + 50MP setup. What the V50 Lite does beat the premium model in, though, is battery life. It packs a massive 6,500mAh battery, slightly bigger than the 6,000mAh cell in the V50. Both support 90W fast charging, so you’re juiced up in no time.
Design-wise, it’s a head-turner. The Lite still boasts a sleek finish, a familiar ring LED flash on the back, and that now-trendy flat-edge frame. Oh, and did we mention it’s IP65 water and dust resistant, and even MIL-STD-810H certified? Not bad for a “Lite” phone.
While this 5G model is the star for now, Vivo’s Kenyan site also teases a 4G variant of the V50 Lite, which hasn’t been officially announced yet. With Vivo clearly rolling out the V50 series in stages, we wouldn’t be surprised if the 4G version sneaks in a few weeks down the line.

For now, if you’re looking to hop on the 5G train without breaking the bank, the V50 Lite 5G might just be the ticket—and you’ll get a backpack to carry that new phone around too.
