These Samsung Galaxy A series phones have received One UI 7 (Android 15) update

Samsung has already wrapped up its One UI 7 (Android 15) rollout for flagship Galaxy devices, including the S, Z, and Tab S series. Even here in Kenya, the Galaxy S21 series — launched back in 2021 — is already rocking Android 15. But what about the masses using Galaxy A series phones?

Well, if you’re among the many midrange Samsung users eagerly (and maybe impatiently) waiting for Android 15 to show up on your phone, you’re not alone — and you’re not being ignored. The update is on the way… slowly.

So, what’s the current status?

Samsung has officially started rolling out One UI 7 to a couple of Galaxy A devices, but only in its home country of South Korea for now. Typically, this first wave rollout sets the stage for a gradual global release. And by “gradual,” we mean it could take a few weeks — or even longer — before the update lands in regions like Kenya or anywhere across Africa.

Here’s what we know so far:

  • Galaxy A55 – The Android 15 update went live in South Korea early this month. Other markets should follow soon.
  • Galaxy A54 – Also receiving Android 15 in Korea as of this writing, with wider availability expected shortly.

And what about the rest of the A squad?

As of now, the following devices are eligible for the update to Android 15 (One UI 7) but haven’t received it yet here in Kenya:

  • Galaxy A53
  • Galaxy A34
  • Galaxy A33
  • Galaxy A24
  • Galaxy A23
  • Galaxy A15 (5G)
  • Galaxy A14 (5G)

It’s quite telling that none of these devices have gotten the Android 15 treatment yet — even while flagships from 2021 are already updated. It’s frustrating, but it’s also part of Samsung’s playbook: flagships first, everyone else later.

Why the delay?

Samsung rolls out software updates regionally, and Korea always gets the first bite of the pie. It’s the safest ground for ironing out any bugs before unleashing updates to millions of users worldwide. So, while your phone will get Android 15 (if it’s eligible), it’s very much a waiting game. And as we’ve seen in past years, midrange and budget models are often the last to be served.

Is this normal?

Unfortunately, yes. Despite all the progress Android has made in reducing OS fragmentation, the gap between premium and midrange devices is still painfully wide — even within the same brand.

Apple, for example, pushes iOS updates to every eligible iPhone on day one, whether it’s an old SE or the latest Pro Max. This is also true for Google Pixel phones. Samsung, on the other hand, still staggers its updates — despite being one of the richest and most resourceful Android manufacturers out there. The result? Midrange and budget Galaxy users feel like second-class citizens in the Android ecosystem.
