Honor Claps Back at Samsung with a Thinly Veiled Jab Over Galaxy S25 Edge

Honor’s Magic V3 Ad Is a Masterclass in Corporate Petty

The race for the thinnest smartphone just got spicier—and Honor has made sure to stir the pot. Following Samsung’s recent launch of the ultra-slim Galaxy S25 Edge, which grabbed headlines for its 5.8mm thin profile, Honor fired back with a bold message of its own: “THIN WITHOUT THE CATCH.” The message appeared alongside a striking promotional image of its Magic V3 foldable, flaunting an even slimmer 4.35mm profile when unfolded.

But this isn’t just about millimeters—it’s about bragging rights.

Samsung had previously taken a jab at Apple during its Galaxy S25 Edge reveal, promising that all Galaxy AI features would be available out of the box. A not-so-subtle dig at Apple Intelligence, which was announced with a “coming soon” asterisk still haunting iPhone users. Well, Honor saw that energy and raised it with a classic return serve.

The brand’s sleek visual ad showcases the Honor Magic V3 from a profile view, making even a pencil look bloated. The key phrase, “THIN WITHOUT THE CATCH,” cuts deep—likely referencing the compromises Samsung may have made to hit that 5.8mm mark, among them battery size and a telephoto lens. And Honor’s numbers back it up: the Magic V3 measures 9.2mm when folded, but when opened, it slims down to just 4.35mm. That’s razor-thin—even more so than Samsung’s proudest achievement to date.

So, how did Honor pull it off?

According to the company, the answer lies in battery tech. The Magic V3 uses a battery that includes a 10% silicon content in the negative electrode—something Honor claims allows for more compact, efficient energy storage. By spreading the battery housing across both panels of the foldable design, the device manages to pack in a whopping 5150mAh cell. And that’s not just for show—it supports 66W wired and 50W wireless super charging. In short, it’s thin, powerful, and fast.

In comparison, the Galaxy S25 Edge packs a 3900mAh unit with 25W fast wired charging. But of course, the comparison isn’t entirely fair. Being a bar-style phone, the S25 Edge is constrained by the tighter engineering tolerances that come with a single-slab design. In contrast, foldables like the Magic V3 have the luxury of distributing components more creatively across a larger surface area. Still, Honor’s message seems to be: “Don’t celebrate just yet, Samsung—we’re still one step ahead.”

Apple, for its part, is rumored to be preparing its own entry into the thin race with the upcoming iPhone 17 Air, which could reportedly measure just 5.5mm thick, potentially undercutting even the Galaxy S25 Edge’s 5.8mm frame. While it’s still just a rumor for now, it adds fuel to an already heated battle where every millimeter counts.

This budding battle for slim supremacy is more than just a specs game—it’s shaping up to be a branding war. And with both companies not-so-subtly taking shots at their rivals, it’s clear that thin is in—but only if you can do it without cutting corners.
