SEACOM East Africa is intensifying its focus on bridging the gap between university education and the professional ICT world through its growing Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme. The initiative aims to equip Kenyan students with the technical and life skills necessary to transition successfully from academic institutions into the workforce.
At the core of SEACOMβs CSI efforts are targeted partnerships with universities across Kenya. Although current collaborations have largely been short-term, the company is actively working to formalise long-term relationships with higher learning institutions to ensure greater consistency, impact, and mutual value.
Academic Tours to Undersea Cable Facilities
One of the programmeβs flagship components is theΒ Academic ToursΒ for engineering students. These visits are designed to provide hands-on exposure to SEACOMβs undersea cable infrastructure, helping students understand its critical role in global internet connectivity. The tours give students a rare look at the real-world applications of telecommunications engineering and international data transport systems.
Mentorship Beyond the Classroom
SEACOM staff are also leading a structuredΒ mentorship programme, going beyond academics to offer students practical insights into both engineering topics and essential soft skills. Sessions cover a range of topics, from applying theoretical principles in a workplace setting to career planning, communication, time management, and professionalism.
This dual approach β technical depth paired with life-readiness β is central to SEACOMβs strategy of shaping holistic professionals ready for dynamic roles in the ICT industry.
