Startups in Kenya with proven, impact-driven business models now have a chance to secure EUR 100,000 in non-dilutive capital. The develoPPP Ventures programme, backed by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is accepting applications for Cohort 9 until June 30, 2025. Successful applicants will also receive tailored technical support to help them grow sustainably.
In Kenya, the programme is implemented by DEG Impulse, in partnership with VC4A and Viktoria Ventures. The goal is to help startups scale solutions that deliver social, economic, or environmental impact.
Funding Plus Support to Scale
According to Stephen Gugu, Founder of Viktoria Ventures, the programme offers more than capital. “Startups need structure, guidance, and the right connections. That’s what develoPPP Ventures delivers.”
Successful applicants will receive support in areas such as strategy, growth, and impact tracking, in addition to the EUR 100,000 grant.
Who Can Apply
To be eligible, startups must:
- Be legally registered and operating in Kenya
- Be revenue-generating and ready to scale
- Show clear social or environmental impact
- Secure matching funds from a third-party investor
This matching requirement ensures that startups already have some investor confidence before joining the programme.
Success Stories from Kenya
Several Kenyan startups have already benefited from previous develoPPP Ventures cohorts.
- Taimba, an AgriTech platform, connects smallholder farmers directly with urban retailers via mobile, reducing post-harvest losses and increasing farmer revenues by over 15 percent.
- GenePlus Global offers livestock breeding and veterinary services through its Easy Breed solution. Many farmers using the service have seen milk yields triple.
- Stima Mobility, an e-mobility company, provides electric motorcycles and smart battery swap stations. Moto-taxi riders using their services save up to 500 dollars a year in fuel and maintenance costs.
A Proven Model
Since its inception, develoPPP Ventures has received more than 2,000 applications and financed 82 startups. Twenty-five of those have gone on to receive follow-on funding, and the programme has helped unlock over EUR 40 million in additional investments.
Wilfred Mworia, Technical Support Associate at Viktoria Ventures, says the results go beyond numbers. “These startups are creating real change—whether it’s through better incomes, cleaner transport, or improved health outcomes.”
How to Join Cohort 9
Interested startups must apply before the deadline on June 30, 2025. Applications are submitted online through this portal.
The programme is not just about funding. It’s designed to help startups grow effectively, build strong foundations, and drive lasting impact.
