Insights At a Glance:

  • Galaxy A15 4G and Galaxy A53 5G are now receiving the One UI 7 (Android 15) update in multiple African countries bundled with the May 2025 security patch.
  • The update includes a refreshed UI, smarter camera features, lock screen widgets, and enhanced privacy tools.
  • Galaxy A23 hasn’t received Android 15 yet, but a new May 2025 security patch is available to download.

Samsung has started pushing the stable One UI 7 update based on Android 15 to users of the Galaxy A53 5G and Galaxy A15 4G across several African markets—including Kenya.

The Galaxy A15 4G was the first to pick it up earlier this week with firmware version A155FXXU6CYE3, while the Galaxy A53 is now receiving version A536EXXUEFYE2. Both updates include the latest May 2025 security patch and all the Android 15 goodies. It’s a major OS upgrade, so brace for a big download. Make sure you’re on Wi-Fi before hitting that update button.

What’s new in One UI 7?

Samsung is calling this a “bold new look”, and it shows. Here are some highlights from the massive changelog:

  • Visual refresh: Redesigned icons, menus, and animations give the interface a cleaner, more polished feel—with lots of curves and a new blur effect for depth.
  • Home screen tweaks: You can now customize app icon sizes, hide text labels, and enjoy more colorful widgets and smarter folder layouts.
  • Lock screen upgrades: A new “Now bar” keeps ongoing tasks like music, timers, or workouts front and center. Animated clocks and Gallery widgets also land on the lock screen.
  • Quick panel split: Swiping down from the top-right brings up Quick Settings; swipe from anywhere else up top to see notifications.
  • Camera updates: New zoom controls, streamlined mode selection, and improved filters with custom editing make snapping photos easier.
  • Samsung Health: New Mindfulness tools, breathing exercises, and a whole bunch of fresh health badges aim to keep you focused and fit.
  • Smarter calendar and reminders: Drag-and-drop events, countdown widgets, and better repeat reminder options help you stay organized.
  • File sharing and security: Enhanced Quick Share, live file transfers over the internet, and new theft protection features that auto-lock your phone if it’s stolen or loses connection.

Battery nerds will love the new Battery Protection range slider—you can now set a max charge between 80% and 95% to preserve battery health. Accessibility gets a boost too, with 1-finger zoom, custom gestures, and smarter screen controls in the Assistant menu.

The Galaxy A23 and Others Still Playing the Waiting Game

While the A15 4G and A53 are basking in the Android 15 glow, the Galaxy A23 is among several other Galaxy A series devices that remain on Android 14. However, the A23 is not entirely left out in the cold; the device has received the May 2025 security patch with firmware version A235FXXSAEYE1. This indicates that while the A23 is staying secure, the One UI 7 update might still be a bit down the road.

For Galaxy A23 and other A series users, patience is key. Keep an eye on your notifications for the One UI 7 update, but rest assured that your device remains protected with the latest security enhancements.

If you’re rocking an A15 4G or A53 in Kenya or elsewhere in Africa, head over to Settings > Software Update > Download and Install to check if it’s available for your device.
