Airtel Money Africa, the mobile money division of Airtel Africa, has deepened its five‑year domestic collaboration with pan‑African payments provider pawaPay, now enabling inbound international remittances across seven key markets: Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia, Malawi, Gabon, Republic of the Congo (Congo‑Brazzaville), and Tanzania.
This expanded partnership empowers licensed International Money Transfer Operators (IMTOs) to transmit funds in real time directly to more than 161 million Airtel Money mobile wallets. The integration leverages pawaPay’s proven, high‑performance infrastructure—handling over four million transactions per day with a 99.9% platform uptime.
Ian Ferrao, CEO of Airtel Money Africa, highlighted how this collaboration “empowers International Money Transfer Operators to securely connect with Airtel Money’s growing footprint, delivering real-time payments that support financial inclusion and economic growth”. Nikolai Barnwell, CEO of pawaPay, added that deepening the relationship underscores their mission to simplify payments across the continent and to strengthen remittance flows.
Importantly, Airtel Africa plans to take its Airtel Money arm public in the first half of 2026, underlining its strategic focus on mobile financial services as a growth driver
