Vivo’s OriginOS Is Finally Going Global

Vivo is finally gearing up to roll out OriginOS globally. Or at least something that looks and feels like it. If you head over to Vivo’s regional websites in Europe, India, or even Kenya, you’ll now spot a new OriginOS page. There’s just one tiny problem: once you actually click through, the page still talks about good old FuntouchOS 15.

So what’s going on here?

It looks like Vivo is taking a page out of Xiaomi’s playbook. Don’t expect the full-blown, feature-packed OriginOS that Chinese users have been enjoying. Instead, this feels more like a rebranding exercise to make the global crowd happy, basically FuntouchOS with a fresh coat of paint and some borrowed tricks from its Chinese cousin. Think of it as FuntouchOS in disguise.

That said, we might finally get a proper UI overhaul. And to be fair, Vivo does sprinkle in OriginOS-inspired features here and there with every Funtouch update anyway. This time, though, it looks like the company is ready to go bigger. At least visually.

Timing is Everything

The global rollout of OriginOS will likely happen around November or December, just in time for the much-anticipated Vivo X300 series launch. Considering Kenya got the X200 series, there’s a solid chance the X300 will also land here with the brand-new software in tow.

For context, earlier rumours suggested the Vivo V60 series would debut in India with OriginOS. Well, that didn’t happen. The Vivo V60 5G is already on sale in Kenya and India, and both versions ship with FuntouchOS 15 based on Android 15 out of the box. So much for that leak.

Still, the writing is on the wall. Vivo is clearly setting the stage for a shift. Whether it’s a true “OriginOS experience” or just a FuntouchOS remix with extra flair, we’ll have to wait and see. Either way, it’s nice to finally see Vivo making moves to unify its software branding worldwide.

And honestly, I’ll take a renamed, mildly upgraded Funtouch if it means my phone looks and feels fresher. Just don’t call it a revolution when it’s more like a glow-up.
